Come help us with Garden Design & Tiny House Construction
The experience
Hello! We are in the beginning phases of creating a Circus School and Permaculture Garden at the edge of a small Portuguese Village. It is a mix of hard work, beautiful nature & fun and laughter with the locals.
We need strong, dynamic people who can operate a strimmer, help lay a drainage pipe, move furniture & assist in fumigating sections of house.
We will also begin Tiny House construction lead by our carpenters, Patrick and Lu.

Hello! I'm Flame 🔥
Welcome to my project, creating the Circus Palace, ✨🎪
This is a beautiful old Brazilian style house that I am restoring after it was abandoned for 60 years. I plan to make it into a Community Theatre and Circus School, with a beautiful Permaculture Garden. We are currently focusing on garden design and tiny house construction.
You will be helping on the 'Circus Palace' property 5 hours a day, five days a week. Food will be provided for three meals a day, though we will take turns at cooking.
Cooking is on a camping strove, and the shower is a bit tempremental. We are slowly improving these things! Sleeping is in a room with two bunk beds.
There will be an opportunity to try fire eating and join the adults aerial class on Sundays. On Saturdays I'm happy to drop and pick up from the beach town of Nazaré. The local area is also very beautiful and I have bicycles so you can enjoy some cycling adventures .
It is a quiet little village though and suits people who live nature and can bring their own projects to keep entertained. The wifi is pretty good but not fast enough for online gaming.
Activities & Shift
The project will develop organically so you will need to be flexible with expectations for each day.
Gardening Activities will involve:
Strimming and cutting large plants
Digging ditches and assisting with drainage and planting
Assisting in assembling our acrobatic rigs
Moving furniture and cleaning
Fumigating for woodworm
Exterior painting
Tiny House Construction
Will be led by our professional carpenter Patrick , and involve the use of hand and power tools.
Our village has three bars, a pool table, a nature area with a shallow pool, and an abandoned village to expore nearby. On Saturday's I'm happy to drop off and pick up from the beach town of Nazare or one of the local festivals. We will visit the traditional Portuguese town of Alcobaça one afternoon, and Sundays are Fire Spinning Practise🔥
Rules
No alarms, walking around the house, cleaning or banging things before 8am.
Quiet in the house after 11pm (unless we are having group drinks).
Basic living skills are not included in the five working hours. Please share the cooking duties (we may have a roster if there are several volunteers) and clean up after yourself.
No smoking inside the house. You can smoke outside the back door in the rear courtyard. Please don't leave cigarette butts in the garden, put them in the bin.
Please be kind to the furniture. It's old but it's special.
This is a work site, so don't invite visitors without prior arrangement with Flame.
The grounds used to be part of a nature reserve and for that reason we have no pets.
You are welcome to have a few drinks with the locals... but if you consistently do not appear at work on time, you will be asked to leave.
