The experience
Our policy and law team will do comparative research of legal and policy provisions and practices in countries around the world regarding environmental issues (protected areas, renewable energy, endangered species etc). Your research outcomes will contribute to the creation of an open-access scientific database regarding issues of the Cycladic ecosystem, as well as publications of informational materials and policy proposals

Description:
The fee covers maintenance and financing of our organization. This covers utility costs & rent for the research base, breakfast & lunch for the volunteers, a living wage for our employees as well as transportation to the field whenever needed. We are not government funded or aided, and although we try to keep costs to a minimum, this fee is what enables us to keep going.

Program Details
Our Social Cooperative Enterprise focuses on creating tangible examples of sustainable practices in the protected area of Syros. Our policy and law team will do comparative research of legal and policy provisions and practices in countries around the world regarding environmental issues (protected areas, renewable energy, endangered species etc). Your research outcomes will contribute to the creation of an open-access scientific database regarding issues of the Cycladic ecosystem, as well as publications of informational materials and policy proposals. You will also have the freedom to propose new research topics and thus support your own research projects.
Activities & Shift
Volunteers are expected to work 5 days per week for 4 hours (20 hrs total weekly), with 2 days off.
A working day starts at 10:00 & finishes at 14:00.
Activities include:
-Researching and creating a comparative report on International, regional and local legal provisions and practices regarding the protected areas (Natura 2000).
-Researching and creating a comparative report on international, regional and local legal provisions and practices regarding renewable energy sources (solar, wind, energy communities etc)
Rules
Requirements:
-Graduate or at least 2 years of academic experience in political science, law, economics or related sciences
-Fluency of English language (knowledge of Greek will be highly appreciated but is not necessary)
-Good computer skills
-Strong organisational skills
-Strong desire to help Apano Meria’s conservation efforts
-Ability to work both individually and as part of a team
-Motivation to live on a small island
