What you offer

12 hours of help per week

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Building & Repairing: Help with a wide range of repairs or building.

Farming: Plant crops, sow seeds and help in outside tasks.

Gardening: Help grow plants and cultivate gardens

Additional fee required

Amount: € 60 Per day

Fee pays for: Benefits for travelers

Description: Volunteers contribute €60 per day, to cover maintenance and financing of our organisation. This covers facilitation, utility costs & rent for the research base, breakfast & lunch for the volunteers, a living wage for our employees as well as transportation to the field whenever needed. We are not government funded or aided, and although we try to keep costs to a minimum, this fee is what enables us to keep going.

Program Details

Volunteers are expected to work 3 days per week for 4 hours (12 hrs total weekly), with 4 days off. A typical day starts at 7 when you'll be transported to the field and finishes around 12 when you get back to base. Working days are flexible but you will usually be free on weekends.


Activities & Shift

Depending on the time of year you will be learning and helping with the harvest of seasonal crops. We mainly collaborate with a bio farm in mainland Syros but will also work on other locations including our own small plot on base. In addition, volunteers might be required to do some light maintenance work around the base

Activities include:
-Picking fruit
-Removing weeds
-Digging new holes
-Planting seedlings
-Pruning
-Making jam/tomato sauce

*Due to the nature of the work activities are subject to change or be cancelled according on the weather conditions on the island.

**All volunteers are required to take up a cleaning chore around the base every day to ensure a clean & healthy living environment.


Rules

Requirements:
-A pair of sturdy closed shoes & long pants
-Ability to work both individually and as part of a team
