Interning at the shelter was one of the best experiences I've ever had!! The managers are so knowledgeable about the shelter, and you can really feel how passionate they all are when talking about their work. Since the intern group is relatively small (8-10 interns while I was there), you really gain a personal relationship with the managers and have the opportunity to learn even more from them. I stayed for 4 weeks and honestly wish I could've stayed for so much longer. If your a the shelter lover, and want to learn more with hands on experience, this is the perfect place for you🌓🦄

My 4 weeks at the shelter and Bosque Escondido has been nothing short of amazing. Working with a wide range of the shelter, learning about each species, their environments and getting to follow and learn from the professionals has made this the best experience. Everyone is so helpful and kind, it was inspiring to see how passionate they are in their line of work. The food is great- I'm going to miss the fish tacos so much! Can't recommend this experience enough for anyone interested in the shelter, ecosystem and sustainability.

My partner and I did the shelter internship with the shelter. It was honestly an unbelievable experience, and I genuinely dont think other reviews give this place credit. The staff were so knowledgeable, passionate and inspiring, teaching us so much about the incredible work they do with the animals. We were surprised at how involved we were able to be, allowed under supervision to enter cages to support with cleaning and feeding animals (ensuring a hands off approach). We will never forget our experience and would recommend to anyone else 1000% if you love nature and the shelter!!

I loved spending two weeks here! The managers are enthusiastic and eager to share their knowledge about the surrounding biodiversity, and they took us on several amazing night walks. The fieldwork was varied and enjoyable, and I learned a lot about the shelter rehabilitation—even got the chance to take part in a release! The post-monitoring was also very interesting. The place is beautiful, full of the shelter, and there's never a dull moment. Highly recommended!

The program managers are wonderful!!Informative, friendly, love what they do. The commitment to helping animals and helping people learn is strong. It is a wonderful program for not only students but people who don't have the luxury of making this their career, but want to be a part of animal care and making a difference. It helps spread awareness and education about the animals, preservation, breeding programs, endangered animals, plants, and vet care. the shelter is a beautiful the shelter. I highly recommend this rewarding, hard work. The community at the house & center are pretty special.

I stayed at the shelter for almost 2 weeks, it was great! This is a VERY cool educational experience, I learned so much about animal respect and care and about the world because there were a lot of international travellers here! As someone not studying animals, I felt a little out of the loop doing some work, but the leaders are very kind and share everything they can. I liked the food and living with other people in a big house! This is not a great experience for immersing in Costa Rican culture because you're on the Center's property a lot. But you can get out and locals work at the shelter too.

I had a great time at the shelter! Met some great people and had fun helping out with caring for the animals, feeding and creating enrichment. If you love animals and want to learn more about how to care for the shelter this is the place to go. Great for people that want to get away for the city and be immersed in nature while learning a lot. The accommodation is nice and you are provided with two meals from the restaurant and food to make breakfast. The hours are not long and you have time off to explore the area.
