My time at the Kartoffel hotel flew by and was way too short, but luckily I feel extremely welcomed to come back whenever I want. The management was considerate, open, and professional and the other volunteers made the experience worthwhile and made the hotel feel like home. I mainly did outdoors work (chopping wood, landscaping, moving furniture) and work constructing potato-shaped bathroom for the hotel (sounds weird, but they don't look too bad). The food was always good - make sure that you like potatoes, you will have it with every meal. Bring work boots that you don't mind getting dirty.

I really enjoyed my experience at The Kartoffel Hotel. Everyone, from the host to the workers, have been warm & welcoming from the beginning and made me feel like I was at home. There are the hostel language classes once a week which is very helpful if you're new to the hostel language (like me) as it will help you to communicate better with your colleagues. The tasks are straightforward, some tasks are more physically demanding but you if you have the right attitude and a strong work ethic, you will excel in all tasks given to you. 100% recommended to anyone looking a unique, fun experience.

I would recommend this as your first volunteer experience. People were great, work was as accorded, and I left the place with plans to come back. It is noticeable the help provided by the "workies manager" and the patient of the kitchen ladies with me because I didn't speak practically a word of the hostel. The only thing I can complain about (apart from the lack of sun) is that somedays I had to work under the rain, something that they changed during my stay. In general, I recommend the potato hotel, it is a good place to meet people and get to know yourself better.

My experience as a volunteer in a hotel in Germany, taking care of maintenance and housekeeping, was incredibly rewarding. The teamwork atmosphere and the friendly vibe among the staff made each day fantastic. Helping out with the hotel's maintenance while enjoying good times with my colleagues made my volunteering experience the best. The friendly environment and the hotel's commitment to quality made my time there both productive and enjoyable. I highly recommend the experience for those looking for something enriching. It was awesome!

I really enjoyed my time! I met lots of wonderful people, connected with nature and learned new skills while working with the Hausmiester. It is a beautiful part of Germany where one can really connect either nature and skill meet travelers from around the world. I stayed almost 2 months and even though it was winter, I found a good amount of activities to do to stay busy.

My experience at the hotel was good, the facilities are excellent, surrounded by beautiful nature and very comfortable rooms with private bathrooms. Work hours and days off are respected and with flexibility if you need it, the work is changing, sometimes it is hard but other times very light. Although the 3 meals are covered, you must take into account the possibility of buying some extra food. The volunteers are always incredible, but it takes a while for the local people to get to know you to be friendly, at first they can act a little rude, give them time and they gonna be super nice!

Wasn't given tour by the owner with whom I spoke online until asked. Work isn't explained until asked. Description online is not accurate. I signed up to be volunteer in the garden. With the pictures online was led to believe there would be work harvesting and preparing potatoes. However, there is not a garden there and hasn't been one for years. Living quarters were substandard (mold, mildew, standing water in shower, dirty beds, leftover food on tables) Expected be part of an organized team and experience the hostel culture while helping accomplish goal. Worked alone pulled weeds from sidewalk.

You were with us for exactly two days. You didn't even bother to get to know us and your tasks. You didn't particularly like us or your work and you showed us that clearly. You were rude and arrogant. You didn't finish your work, you left work early without asking and you didn't even put your tools away properly. You didn't enjoy your tasks at all and weren't interested in them either. You can't rate us at all (thanks for your two stars) because you didn't bother to get to know us at all. You just ran away, only lasted two days and didn't even say goodbye. Of course, a Worldpackers internship is also there to learn that a Worldpackers internship is not your thing. But please don't blame us for this. We have been doing the job for over 30 years with many happy interns and trainees. I discussed your criticism of making the tour on the first day even more extensive with the team and we will implement it that way. I wish you many more experiences, because that's exactly what Worldpackers & Co is there for :-)

The staff is really welcoming the people who work there are all really nice, they give you a nice room to stay in, you can use the Sauna and the bikes, also the hostel class is very useful and the teacher is committed to your learning. The hotel often has organization problems, sometimes leading to over hours (they give you hours later), work without proper equipment, sudden changes in schedule and even heavy workload at times. Also even though it includes 3 meals, at times when there's no guests, we wouldn't always get proper breakfast or lunch.

Hello Selene, we find your review rude and dishonest. You were shocked that work and winter in Germany felt unpleasant. That's exactly what an internship and a trip abroad is intended for - to gain new experiences. You have now worked for the first time in your life (we don't want to talk about the quality of your work here - it just wasn't good) and you have now realized that work is tiring. And you now know that a winter in Germany feels different than in your home country. But instead of growing through your new experiences, you decided to end your internship early and go into the city to party. And as a parting gift you left us a bad review full of lies and untruths. There was enough to eat every day, some weeks you didn't even work the 30 hours you wanted, but rather 25 and even just 20 hours. And there were also enough work gloves. Please change your behavior in the future then it will be even better for you and for your hosts and future colleagues.
