The experience

From 11pm to 8am the job is to keep the place:

i) Safe: Control acces and making sure only guests are coming in

ii) Quiet: Noone should be at the books patio, or sat in front of the hostel

iii) Clean: Clean the hostel to help you past time.

A check list will be given when arriving here as part of the training. We except you to follow and help us to be a safer, quieter and cleaner hostel as you like!

What you offer

24 hours of help per week

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Housekeeping: Help with changing the bed linens and general housekeeping.

Administration: Help with booking systems and payments.

Reception: Help with check-ins, check-outs and guest assistance.

What you get

3 days off per week

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Team Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other people.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Discounts on Parties: Get discounts at nearby parties and clubs.

Discounts on Drinks: Get discounts for drinks and beverages from our bar.

Discounts on Tours: Get discounts for tours and excursions around town.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Requirements

Beginner Portuguese and Fluent English

Over 18 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

At the moment we are rebuilding the empire. And there not really an empire, just the desire to bring back Books to what it once was, the house of backpackers in Rio. We need likeminded people who like to go out and take the responsibility to lead. The pack of backpackers aka our guests, want to feel safe, and that is our job.

Activities & Shift

3 shifts of 8 hours! The work schedule is send every week or sometimes if is fixed, just ask upon arrival. Changes are always possible.

A happy staff is the soul and heart of a hostel.
