My time here was an unique experience! We stayed with a family with three generations, dogs, cats and a parrot. We could use the house like our own. We went to the daily teachers-meeting, spent time in a class/ kindergarden group of our choice, had lunch in school (vegetarian for us). We could choose our work and our coordinators cared a lot for us. We prepared "classes" for the parents, we helped with homework and made crafts with some kids. Everyone was so lovely and happy to have us there. Be prepared to see the "real" Colombia, how many people live here, far away from the tourist spots.

I had a very good time here! All the people were so lovely. The work was interesting and varied. I loved to play with the kids in the school. The agreed working hours were met and we had a lot of say in what we wanted to work on. The people responsible for us always took good care of us and were always available if we had any questions. In my opinion, the project is very good for the local population. The children receive a good education and can grow up well. It was great to be able to help a little bit and to learn so much myself. We stayed with a local family and had our own room there 🫂☀️

I had a very good time at Las Colonias, and especially enjoyed getting to know first hand a different culture and way of living. You will be completely immersed in the community, living with the family and staying with the kids. I liked how every person was welcoming and caring, making me feel at home. I would definitely recommend intermediate/advanced spanish knowledge to live the full experience. Be prepared to be proactive and come up with some ways of participating in the school and community. You will definitely receive much love!

We had a very nice time in Las colonias. Everybody is so heartfelt and thankful that we were there. During our stay we played with the kids, helped the teachers or participated at community tasks like recycling the trash. We were very free to choose what we want to do. It's definitely easier if you speak Spanish because you can interact more with the kids, the teachers and the host family. We didn't speak Spanish so good, so we had to communicate a lot with our hands but it was no problem. They do everything to make you having a good time.

It was a wonderful and heartwarming experience. We felt very welcomed. Even though our Spanish is not good, they tried their best to involve us. But it is definitely easier if you speak Spanish. If you like to be around children, play with them and to pass on your knowledge about something, for example a language, this place is perfect. You will get a lot of gratitude back!

Las Colonias is a loving community. The kids are so cute and everyone is really kind. Unfortunately with my poor spanish it wasn't easy for me to understand them (they have a dialect and speak really fast, also specially the children won't make any effort to speak clearly). But somehow we could communicate. So if you want to volunteer in las Colonias it would be better if you already can speak Spanish. As a volunteer in las Colonias you have a lot of freedom. Maybe even too much 😅. You should be able to initiate an activity or be willing to teach a class, so you don't get bored.

I had the chance to stay to the organization for a bit more than two weeks and tbh felt quite good. the hosting family was quite warm and welcoming. the set of activities/actions you may do relies essentially on you. me and other volunteers choosed to teach English to the children of the community and went smoothly. overall the place is very chill, people are happy and have an easy contact :)

A really lovely and amazing experience, the community of the organization welcome you with open arms. The foundation is a wonderful thing and run by incredible people. You will stay with a local host family who treat you as their own, and it is an amazing way to learn/improve your Spanish. Couldn't recommend this experience more. They really appreciate and value your help in any way possible.

This is a very enriching experience that you shouldn't miss out on. The people in the organization is very friendly and really value the international volunteers even if you're not perfect in Spanish. You'll have the chance to live with a local family and eat traditional Colombian meals with them. the organization has a good vibe and is also not too far from the main city of Pereira if you want some things to do during your free time or on weekends. Highly recommend this during your time in Colombia!

I was in the organization for a month and it was an incredible time. The people, despite the difficult time they went through, are incredibly friendly and generous. You are very appreciated as a helper and people are happy to spend time with you. Furthermore, the leaders of the organization is stunning people who you just have to get to know! The projects that the organization has to offer are varied and interesting and there is something for everyone! One must always be aware that no matter how long one participates in the project, one will always get more from the organization than one can give!
