Help me with woodland and eco-build in Scotland!

The experience

I've been taking care of this ancient woodland for many years. For the past 5 years I've lived here full time, having renovated one of the huts I built 40 years ago. Planting trees, after care, flailing paths, planking wood, log cutting, managing rhododendron, the list is endless! My husband left last year and I'm looking for practical people who can give me a hand. We can chat on Wattsapp before either of us commit!

Program Details

The rainforest and coast are stupidly beautiful. I have two options for a volunteer. If you can come for just a week or two and can use a chainsaw, fell a tree or two and prepare logs in a pile, I'd like about four or five hours help a day, five days a week in exchange for board and lodging...

If you want a longer stay, then I'd like two or three hours a day or so many hours a week and I'll provide a caravan, but you'd mostly look after yourself, but I always make bread, have veg in the garden etc. jobs would be more varied then according to what's going on. Could be clearing bracken or driving a quad, strimming or laying a drain. I'm completely flexible on which days you take off. The fishing village of Tarbert is a mile away. Ferries run locally to the Islands of Jura, Islay, Arran, Gigha - stunning walks!

Activities & Shift

I meet with volunteers most mornings before we start to chat about the day ahead. Some skill with machinery, chain saws, tools etc and an ability to learn quickly would be a help.

Rules

No smoking please, and it's important to keep the caravan neat and clean. Stay sober is essential. And for everyone, including me, being generally helpful and kind is always a recipe for success!!
