The Experience

Work on the farm varies by season. In the Spring we spend our time prepping the field, sowing seeds, growing transplants, cultivating those seeds in the field, weeding, and watering. As we move into summer and fall helpers will have the opportunity to harvest and sell the fruits and vegetables that have been growing the past few months at the local farmers’ markets.

Volunteering at the Stockwell Farm was honestly an incredible and life-changing experience for me. It was 10x better than I expected for my first work exchange program. I made personal and meaningful friendships with all the volunteers and staff and the owner of Stockwell Farms Vern was such an amazing and kind individual. Both him and Randy went above and beyond to make sure everyone felt at home and safe. I learned so much about growing food. I will 100% be returning to the Stockwell farm next summer and I can’t wait. Highly recommend!

this was my first volunteer experience in a farm and it couldn't be better. The host - Vern and Randy are are amazing human.I fell in love with this place the moment i got here and decided to extend my stay. working hours are flexible and doable. and you have so much time for yourself after work to enjoy. if you love nature, outdoorsy stuff, then this is the place to be. i also learned a lot about organic farming.

An absolutely heartwarming and wonderous experience. An amazing way to connect with people and learn about nature. Everyone was so caring and giving to each other. The work is very doable and at convenient hours with amazing things to explore on hours off. My personal experience was incredibly wonderful and I would absolutely recommend this experience.

You Get "MORE THAN" You Will Give

I can honestly say the amount of work you are doing does not equal how MUCH you will be getting in return.

The whole setup is overwhelmingly "giving" to the guests.

- Free breakfast, lunch, dinner
- Free Trips around Palmer & Anchorage
- Free Place to say
- Free car to use when you finish work
- People to connect with

Really a great place to connect with people, especially if you are extroverted!

However, the lone wolf in me had to cut my stay short --but I enjoyed my time there!

There aren’t words to describe how amazing this experience was! Randy kept the work running smoothly and planned events for almost every day of my stay (such as hiking/camping/trips to town). He also facilitated morning yoga and evening meals! Vern generously shares his home and farm. They both make sure that all visitors feel welcome and cared for :) The organic food is fantastic and on many nights the group worked together to cook up a meal and share it family style at the table. I really felt like I got to experience Alaska and connect with some amazing people!!
