The hostel is a huge family, a family created during the program with the people that went for the project. James, the host, is creative, calm, flexible and trully engaged with the project and aware on how to make it pleasent during all the steps of the way. We created a social entrepreneurship from scratch and went to teach english on Rio communities, in between, we did hikes, workshops, and immersion in Rio culture and nature. A truly unique experience that I recommend to all of those who want to make a local impact in Rio and in themselves.

It was amazing I liked everything and the people I came across through the program where impactful and I felt at home, I didn't want to leave but I'm glad I had an experience of that nature. The school was fun and impactful towards me and the students where amazing and cool I got the chance to interact and feel apart of the local community.

James and victor made me feel at home in casa de Larry, really became my little home away from home, the project of the hostel teches English to whoever wants to learn it in the heart of Vidigal and I know it will keep growing and doing good to the community with the amazing teachers they have, cannot recommend this volunteer work enough, good luck James and thank you for having me

We had a good time in the hostel, especially teaching was fun since you only have a max. of 3 students per lesson. The students are all really nice but i would recommend speaking decent portuguese since a lot of them are beginners.

The house is very nice, and we loved living in Vidigal and it felt very safe! We also met so many nice people and made good friends here. But when it comes to the project there is a lot of improvement to be made. The project has potential but there is lacking structure and passion from the management. More time could be spent on improving the school rather than making volunteers do personal development classes. No problem with paying but would like to see the kids get more food and see that the money is actually going towards the project. Would recommend the place but not the project!

I truly enjoyed staying at the hostel! It's a calm place with a friendly atmosphere, and I could see myself going back. I did the cleaning volunteering with another person, it was flexible and the starting time was not set in stone. There was a checklist for every day, and we could decide together if we wanted to start early in the morning or later.

If you're thinking of applying here, do it! Really great place: Larry is super welcoming, the hostel is fascinating and the people are lovely - and they just opened a new açaí shop 5 minutes away The teaching was a great experience too. If you're worried about getting on with the kids, don't. They can be boisterous but just the same as any other group of 7-16 year-olds :) A really fulfilling experience, I'd love to come back! One small negative: I had to do some cleaning which was not on the listing. It wasn't much really but just should be agreed in advance Thanks for everything! :)

This was my first world packers experience and it really smashed all expectations. The all the rooms of the house are indoor/outdoor and look down a rainforested cliff to the ocean. The other people at the house, Samuel, Larry and Meg are so friendly and warm. I don't think I've ever had such a high concentration of great conversation over morning coffee, but none of its forced, so if you're more introverted than that'll be totally respected too. The household tasks were straightforward, and I would love to come back and teach at the English school again.

This was such an amazing and rewarding experience. I would like to thank Larry and Meg to provide this space for volunteers to participate in such an altruist project. It wasn't the easiest challenge but very rewarding experience. Sharing with the kids and maybe or hopefully helping them and inspiring them on improving their English skills. I enjoyed very much the hostel, the view was wonderful, and having my coffee every morning, and enjoying such a delightful sunrise doesn't have a price. Thanks to the other volunteers who were there also helping the kids and with my Portuguese 🙈. Eve
