Teach English to our kids in Pahou, Benin!
The experience
Pahou is a small municipality next to the capital of Benin, Cotonou. Our school helps at-risk children who lost one or both parents or experience extreme financial difficulties. They have often fallen behind in their education and it is hard for them to attend public schools.
We are grateful for all the volunteers who have helped us and need english speakers for our Summer program "Vacances Epanouies". Teach english and play games with the kids!

Program Details
This is a volunteering experience in a developing country so we have very limited resources compared to other experiences you may have had in more developed countries. Our school has chalk boards and chalk, desks and tables, and 2 classrooms. The walls are a mix of bricks and straw. There is no electricity nor "modern bathroom". We can provide kids with notebook and pens but in the past, volunteers have organized fundraising at home to help pay for the Summer school supplies and games - soccer balls, jumping ropes, etc... You will be living with a local family who lives 5 minutes away by foot from our school. I will be bringing you food.
Activities & Shift
The kids are aged 5 years old to 15 years old. Our Summer program starts at 9am and ends at 1pm. From 9am to 11.30am, we focus on academic learning - teaching english to the kids: counting, vocabulary, grammar, geography. At 10am, there is a 15 minute recess, and at 11.30, we take lunch. At 12pm, we start games, artistic, and athletic activities until 1pm or so. Depending on how many volunteers we have, you will get assistance.
Rules
Experience working with kids is a plus as we may have a ratio of 1 teacher to 20-30 kids. And we need somebody who is reliable and will not leave after a day or 2. These kids have been let down many times and we count on our volunteers to give this kids a beautiful Summer program. I, M. Delphin, am the director of the school, but I speak English only a little bit. One of our former volunteer who lives in the United States is helping us with our Worldpackers account. She will be happy to also give you more information about this volunteer position.
