The experience
You will learn all the ins- & outs of running a bar in a hostel: prepare and serve breakfast, make drinks in the bar and help with (group) events.
We host people from all over Europe and although we are Dutch, the main language spoken in the hostel is English. So if you are looking to improve your English and work within an energetic, fun, and genuine team that feels more like a family, than this is the best place to be! :)
What you offer
25 hours of help per week
Kitchen Hand:
Help prepare, finish and serve meals.
Bartending:
Make and serve drinks and help maintain the beverages inventory.

Team Dorm:
You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other people.
Breakfast:

Intermediate English or Fluent English
Between 18 and 30 years old
Only hosts solo volunteers (doesn’t accept couples or partners)

Program Details
We are looking for two volunteers with restaurant, barista and guest contact experience! We are looking for someone who is energetic and enjoys the very important social chats with our international guests. Hostel Roots really wants to elevate the basement (breakfast) bar and we want to do it together with you and your creativity!
We have 2 different shifts:
- Breakfast: 07.00 - 12.00
- Bar: 15.30 - 21.00 / 17.00 - 22.30
We would like to have people who can stay for a minimum of 8 weeks. We give 15 euros a week to each work and stayer for groceries, however the team generally put all their money together to do a big food shop. You can also have free breakfast and lunch everyday. You will share a bedroom, kitchen and toilet/shower with 5 other volunteers in the hostel. We also have a washing machine and a dryer for your clothes. There is also free WiFi :)
Activities & Shift
The two volunteers are responsible for our bar, they will rotate the breakfast and barshifts together, everything can be discussed and we are open for preferences. The two of you will be a team :)
During the breakfast shift you will welcome the guest in the morning and give them a warm feeling in our bar. You prepare their coffee order and serve them breakfast. During the bar shift in the evening you pour the drinks of our guest and keep the bar clean. We also some events that we will need an experienced bartender for!
We are looking for someone who is organized and structured because some weekend breakfast shift can be fun but hectic ;)
Rules
We like to organize team outings every once in a while. Volunteers at Hostel Roots can join sport classes for free at a sportclub nearby!
For us the most important thing is that the volunteers have fun, because when you have fun, guests will notice the good vibe in the hostel and automatically give them a better stay. A day will never be the same and we try to divide the shifts over the volunteers. However, we do look at personal skills so we can further help you improve!
