Program Details

I’m looking for a fit person who wants to experience our way of life on the farm and is prepared to help with the hay-making season. For the right person, there may be some cash payment and extension into fencing work too.

Typical everyday farm duties include opening gates so the tractor can pass through, helping with moving machinery, helping to move horses about, feeding animals, cleaning water troughs, spraying weeds ....

In exchange, you will be treated as one of the family, all lodging, internet and meals supplied.

Activities & Shift

This is a help-out where you can position yourself, but we tend to foster your existing interests while teaching you some new skills at the same time. Happy to help with learning English.
There may be a weekend where you may just farm/cat/horses/house-sitting. This is a quiet time centered around caring for the horses, cat, and gardens to keep everything fed and watered while we are away.
We begin each day with bacon, eggs, and avocado[when in season]. We follow a predominantly Paleo diet [no grains or legumes]. Just wholesome, unprocessed foods sourced from free-range, wild, or grass-fed producers.
We don't eat much during the day. A piece of fruit, a slice of cake, and a cuppa. Fellas during hay making/fencing will get a meat pie or similar for lunch.
Dinner is salad or veggies with meat [maybe curry, bolognese, stroganoff, chili con carne, soup] …
Experience Australian life in peaceful bushlands/farmlands, viewing Australian wildlife such as goannas, echidnas, kookaburras, kangaroos 🦘 , koalas 🐨, snakes …
We have lots of horses 🐴 and new foals are born at this time of year, which we handle when time permits.
If you like cities and lots of people, then this is not for you. If you love nature and quiet, then you are in the right place!
We offer free transfers from the Inverell bus coach or airport.

Rules

You will be a guest in our beautiful home, sleeping in the privacy of your own room.
We are totally off the grid and rely on the sun to generate our power, so conservative use of power is encouraged. We also conserve the use of water, as it comes from the sky, and we never know when the next drought will be.

No smoking in the house and shoes off, please.

Must be prepared to help on the farm where needed every day. As the saying goes, "Make hay while the sun shines".

Responsible for your alcohol purchase. So if you like a drink, bring your own, please.

Quiet time after 10 pm through to 7am.
