The experience

Located in Hakuba, Nagono, Japan, a snow destination with 11 ski resorts. Hosts are English and Chinese fluent, still learning Japanese. Offering dormitory (bunkbeds), food for breakfast/dinner, snow tickets and rides to/from ski resorts. You may find skis/snowboards/snowshoes that you can borrow for free (no guarantee in size). Feel free to use the pianos in the living room. Guests are mostly foreign families traveling with kids/pets.


What you offer

25 hours of help per week

Reception: Help with check-ins, check-outs and guest assistance.

Kitchen Hand: Help prepare, finish and serve meals.

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Housekeeping: Help with changing the bed linens and general housekeeping.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Program Details

In winter time, we will need your help with all of the following:
1. Deep cleaning during pre-opening period: making an inventory, organizing, decorating, and cleaning kitchen, office, storage area, showrooms, restrooms, guest rooms and common areas.
2. Reception: Help with check-ins, check-outs and guest assistance.
3. Housekeeping: changing bed linens, cleaning guest rooms and all other common areas
4. Kitchen hand: preparing and serving guest-breakfast, cleaning tables and kitchen utensils (we have dishwasher!!), making dinner for all volunteers (we don't offer dinner for guests)
5. Driving: Pick guests up from and send them off to bus station or ski resort.
6. Other ad hoc jobs: help to move the firewood into the living room, shopping, snow cleaning etc.


Activities & Shift

5 working hours per working day, 5 working days every week
Basically three shifts+driving:
- morning shift for breakfast and kitchen/dining area cleaning, and taking seats
- day shift for housekeeping
- night shift for dinner and kitchen/dining area cleaning and preparing breakfast materials



Rules

No food/drink in dormitory.
No smoking in the house.
Keep quiet after 10:30 p.m..
Cleaning/maintaining all facilities that you have used (cups, mugs, plates, tables, kitchen areas, or bathrooms) immediately after you use them.
Be mindful when you use the public areas/facilities during busy hours (laundry in day time/shower in late hours when no guest is using them for example).
