Program Details

Join us at Hotel Isla Tijereto, a boutique eco-hotel on a Caribbean island paradise! As a Kitchen Assistant, you’ll help our local chef prepare delicious meals while enjoying ocean views and a warm, multicultural environment. We offer shared accommodation, all meals, and the chance to be part of an inspiring project by the sea. Ideal for friendly, hands-on volunteers who love food, teamwork, and slow island living.

You’ll work just 5 hours a day (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), with one day off per week to explore the island or relax by the beach. Bilingual skills (Spanish + English or French) are a big plus to connect with staff and guests.

Activities & Shift

Shift: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (5 hours/day, 6 days/week)

Your main tasks will include:

Assisting with lunch preparation (cutting, prepping ingredients, simple cooking)
Helping set up and plate dishes for guest service
Washing dishes, cleaning counters, and keeping the kitchen organized
Supporting our chef with whatever is needed during service
Ensuring the kitchen is clean and tidy before finishing the shift

Rules

To ensure a safe, respectful, and enriching experience for everyone in our small island community, we ask all volunteers to follow these simple rules:

No recreational drugs
The use or possession of illegal or recreational drugs is strictly prohibited on hotel property. Violations will result in immediate dismissal from the program.
No alcohol during work hours
Volunteers are not allowed to drink alcohol before or during their shift. Responsible drinking is permitted after hours and always with respect for guests and other team members.
Keep volunteer quarters pristine
You share your living space with others—please keep it clean, organized, and free of trash or food waste. Respect quiet hours and each other’s personal space.
Be respectful to all guests and staff
You are part of the guest experience! Politeness, kindness, and cultural sensitivity are expected at all times.
No guests in volunteer rooms
For safety and privacy, guests (including other travelers) are not allowed in volunteer accommodations.
Respect the environment
We are located in a fragile natural area. Please minimize plastic use, conserve water and electricity, and follow our sustainability practices.
Communication is key
If you feel unwell, have a concern, or need help, please speak with the team. We’re here to support you and want this to be a great experience.
Be on time and present
Your role matters! Please be punctual, avoid using your phone during tasks unless necessary, and always bring a positive attitude.
