Alice and Pat were absolutely lovely! The work was straight forward and easy at least for myself! I felt immediately at home, and was sad to be leaving. The island is beautiful but remote just as Alice explained to me. However there are plenty of locals around who visit the pub and the hostel has guest from everywhere! I made lifelong friends at the hostel, will be forever grateful and returning in the future! 🫶🥰

I can't thank Pat, Alice, Roisin, Zak and the rest of the team enough for a brilliant stay. For anyone looking at applying - remember this is a rural spot! If you don't have a car with you, you'll have to rely on buses to get anywhere. The buses are good, and not overly expensive (I think €6.50 for a return ticket to the nearest shops). This kind of location is exactly what I wanted, and I loved it. The work is exactly what I expected, and hours are very reasonable. Happy to answer any questions if this is a place you'd like to visit. I can only recommend it, and I'd love to return :-)

My experience at the hostel was amazing. All the people are very kind and friendly. I've been here for two months so I had the opportunity to meet a lot of people. Pat and Alice are fantastic people and all the other guys made me feel at home. Achill is really special and magical.

I absolutely loved helping Alice and Pat out. The tasks were always clear and well-communicated. The work tempo is usually relaxed and you would always get help if you felt like you couldn't do something on time (very rarely, but sometimes there could be large groups of guests, and it would get a bit more intense). I loved exploring the island and meeting local folk at the hostel. the hostel itself is gorgeous and so fun to take care of, the food was great. The only thing you need to pay attention to, since it's a rural remote area is transportation. Local buses are great, but a car is better :)

My experience at the hostel and the hostel was excellent. It was a real challenge, not being proficient in the English language and mostly interacting with English speakers. However, the staff and fellow volunteers were always supportive in helping me understand. Achill Island is a unique place where you can enjoy tranquility and appreciate its stunning landscapes. The daily tasks are straightforward, and you can make the most of the two days off to explore the island. I highly recommend this expérience for a refreshing break and meet locals people.

I stayed in the hostel Haouse for about 5 weeks, and it was both relaxing and really fun! I met alot of both international travellers and locals, and everyone was really welcoming and fun to be with. I was well fed with good food, and I was allowed to take ingredients for baking which was really nice. Alice and her husband was very nice and welcoming, and they were always ready to answer questions if you had any. The scenery in Achill is very beautiful with many beaches and cliffs, it almost seem magical, and the locals have different folktales that match the nature, which I really liked.

The experience exceeded my expectations. the hostel is welcoming as are the people and the team of volunteers. They were flexible when it came to making changes to my other work schedule, and thanks to that I could work in other areas of the hotel. Pat, Rory and Bekah are very loving and friendly, it was nice to meet them. A recommendation about the place: buy bug repellent before you arrive. The hotel is remote, close to lakes and the sea with good views and enjoyable walks. Now July is high season, so there will be work to do and music in the hostel! I'll come back.

It's a really remote place, the closest store is about 45 minute walk away, there's no wifi (it only works sometimes) and it's cold even on summer. At the beginning the organization is a bit chaotic, because nobody explains anything, you have to discover everything by yourself. The job was easy and most of the time you could finish earlier. But the same didn't happen with the days off, I had the feeling that they were annoyed that I took the days off that corresponded to me.

It's a real pity Iria that you didn't look at a map and do a little research before you decided to come to Achill Island, that way you can see the location and the climate and understand where you are going to. If you are coming from Spain and are used to a hot climate, you will find Ireland a bit cold, even in the summer. There's not much we can do about that I'm afraid, it's our climate. Also if you need to be near shops or a town, it's not a good idea to choose a host in a rural island location. Everything was explained to you from the beginning regarding the work (which as you say, is easy) but unfortunately your understanding (speaking and comprehension) of English is very poor. It was difficult for us because we asked you repeatedly if you understood and if you needed anything and you smiled and said it was all fine - but apparently not. I can also assure you that no one was unhappy that you took days off, everyone here has 2 days off a week - I have no idea why you think anyone was annoyed.

We spent almost a month at the hostel and we really enjoyed our stay there. We helped making breakfast, laundry, cleaning, painting, building a bathroom in one of the rooms and taking care of guests. We liked working there and we met a lot of international and local guests. Especially in the pub, which is in the hostel, it was often full with friendly locals and good music. The nature around the place is beautiful and we could use the two bikes from the hostel to explore the island. But with a car it would be much easier! Thank you Alice and Pat, we had a really good time in Achill!
