I stayed in the hostel Haouse for about 5 weeks, and it was both relaxing and really fun! I met alot of both international travellers and locals, and everyone was really welcoming and fun to be with. I was well fed with good food, and I was allowed to take ingredients for baking which was really nice. Alice and her husband was very nice and welcoming, and they were always ready to answer questions if you had any. The scenery in Achill is very beautiful with many beaches and cliffs, it almost seem magical, and the locals have different folktales that match the nature, which I really liked.

The hostel is such an awesome place to volunteer. Alice, Pat, Bekah, and the whole team make you feel super welcome!! Plus the area is absolutely stunning. The work is straight forward and you get a lot in return. Definitely wish I could've stayed longer!

The experience exceeded my expectations. the hostel is welcoming as are the people and the team of volunteers. They were flexible when it came to making changes to my other work schedule, and thanks to that I could work in other areas of the hotel. Pat, Rory and Bekah are very loving and friendly, it was nice to meet them. A recommendation about the place: buy bug repellent before you arrive. The hotel is remote, close to lakes and the sea with good views and enjoyable walks. Now July is high season, so there will be work to do and music in the hostel! I'll come back.

It's a really remote place, the closest store is about 45 minute walk away, there's no wifi (it only works sometimes) and it's cold even on summer. At the beginning the organization is a bit chaotic, because nobody explains anything, you have to discover everything by yourself. The job was easy and most of the time you could finish earlier. But the same didn't happen with the days off, I had the feeling that they were annoyed that I took the days off that corresponded to me.

It's a real pity Iria that you didn't look at a map and do a little research before you decided to come to Achill Island, that way you can see the location and the climate and understand where you are going to. If you are coming from Spain and are used to a hot climate, you will find Ireland a bit cold, even in the summer. There's not much we can do about that I'm afraid, it's our climate. Also if you need to be near shops or a town, it's not a good idea to choose a host in a rural island location. Everything was explained to you from the beginning regarding the work (which as you say, is easy) but unfortunately your understanding (speaking and comprehension) of English is very poor. It was difficult for us because we asked you repeatedly if you understood and if you needed anything and you smiled and said it was all fine - but apparently not. I can also assure you that no one was unhappy that you took days off, everyone here has 2 days off a week - I have no idea why you think anyone was annoyed.

We spent almost a month at the hostel and we really enjoyed our stay there. We helped making breakfast, laundry, cleaning, painting, building a bathroom in one of the rooms and taking care of guests. We liked working there and we met a lot of international and local guests. Especially in the pub, which is in the hostel, it was often full with friendly locals and good music. The nature around the place is beautiful and we could use the two bikes from the hostel to explore the island. But with a car it would be much easier! Thank you Alice and Pat, we had a really good time in Achill!

The hostel is an amazing, peaceful, semi-secluded location in Achill. It is a stunning hostel with amazing hosts. I absolutely adored volunteering here and wish I could have stayed longer. Alice and Pat are accomodating, warm, and inviting. Though it is out of the way of the city and towns it is easy to transport yourself to local shops/restaurants on foot (2.5hrs) bike (1hr) or hitchhike. You feel safe to roam to the beach that is 15 min walk away and take a swim if youre brave enough to jump in. I will definitely be back again.

I spent an amazing time in the hostel! Alice and Pat are wonderful people! They were always attentive, friendly and open. if they had to do something specific they told me or I could ask Pat anything and he had no problem to explain. The work is very easy and life there very quiet. For being my first experience as a volunteer I felt very comfortable, cared for and at home. I highly recommend it and I will be back for sure!

Working at the hostel is a truly authentic rural Irish experience. For this reason I'd be lying if I said it didn't take a few days to get used to some of the idiosyncrasies of the place, but once I accepted these I had a great time. Work is hostel work mixed with manual tasks so there was plenty of variety. the hostel is full of locals and the live music is spontaneous and authentic. The Guinness is superb! We received three decent meals a day - be prepared to eat late as the restaurant gets priority. It is remote so be prepared to hitch hike, bike or walk long distances to get around.
