Breakfast, Housekeeping and kitchen hand in a ski hostel

I spent a great summer season at the hostel. It hosts about 70 people, but we weren't fully booked most of the time, so work was pretty manageable. I did breakfast, housekeeping and kitchen shifts. Schedule changed with little notice depending on demand, but for the most part it was respected. Wonderful place to hike, most guests were mountain bikers and families, great for skiing in winter. Around 50 minute walk from nearest village/supermarket. There is a free bus and you can borrow bikes, but your own car would be more convenient. Overall a wonderful experience, would recommend

I had an awesome 6 weeks working at the hostel in summer, made great friends and got to practice my French, do lots of hiking and trail running. I did breakfast and housekeeping 7am-12pm. Then some days 7.30-9.30pm kitchen shifts. Longer shifts for film nights. Pros: lots of free time, bedroom to myself, free breakfast, free lift pass, free bus stop next door to lifts Cons: 3km from the main town so with no car it felt isolated at night, expected to work 32+ hours and 6 days a week when busy in August, more of a hotel, not as social with guests as a hostel.

I've spent the whole winter season here at Châtel and I couldn't have asked for a better place! Staff: Jason, Marion, Alissa, and other volunteers [Julie, Nao, Mel] were like another familly to me. From the start you can feel welcome, well cared for. The atmosphere is friendly and joyful. I worked from 3-4 h five days a week, sometimes longer [5, 6, 8 h]. My shifts were in the morning so the whole afternoon was for me. I could go skiing, go hiking, etc. All in all, it was an amazing experience [both with work and meeting people] and I'd recommend it to anyone!

Châtel is such a charming place, the hikes are beautiful, the atmosphere is so peaceful, and I loved my stay at the hostel. I worked a few hours in the mornings and had a lot of time for myself. Jason is a great boss and the team just felt like family :) everyone is always ready to help and to make you feel at home. I'm so thankful for the beautiful memories I've made during this summer! Amazing place, amazing people (and amazing burguers as well haha) I had the best experience here and the time has gone too quickly!! I will never forget it <3 Thank you!!

Julieta has been a great worker at our place. She initialy came for the season but ended up staying for 2 years. We didn't want to let her go :)
She has extra skills such as playing music, singing and painting and she is always keen to do more

I loved every moment of this experience. Jason is a great host, he helps with anything you need, he knows a lot of hikes and cool places to go around Châtel and is very kind and fair with the amount of work. The team and him made my experience perfect and I wouldn't change a single thing. I even extended my stay because I don't want to leave :) If you love nature, hiking and mountains, this is the place to go. Thanks for everything <3

The experience at the hostel was amazing! You only work a few hours in the morning and in the afternoon you are free to explore the hikes in the french alpes. The hostel is pretty cool with a nice bar and foodtruck in front of it. Jason and the staff are always ready to give you tips of what to do around also. Chatel is a small town, but if u enjoy spending time at the nature i'm sure you gonna love it as I did. Totally recommend it.

The hostel has been an incredible experience for me. From the moment I arrived Jason was sweet and helpful. I was able to practice my french and english. The staff speak spanish as well. They were very nice and friendly. The working schedule left enough time to do other things throughout the afternoon and it was flexible to allow us to travel around. The bar is a perfect place to meet people and eat a delicious hamburguer from the food truck :) We have had great discounts and some free drinks! I feel so grateful for everything! I totally recommend volunteering.
