The experience

Our English class was established in 2016 in Lakxao, Bolikhamxay Province, Lao PDR, near the Vietnamese border. We are seeking foreign volunteers interested in teaching English to local students. Lakxao is a rural area, but many travelers pass through. Due to language barriers, communication is difficult. English teaching helps local people support travelers, improve communication skills, and contribute to community development.

What you offer

20 hours of help per week

Teaching Languages: Teaching a language to the host, guests, or local communities.

What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Get free drinks or beverages.: Drink up! Get free and tasty drinks for yourself.

Dance classes: Take free dance classes at our place.

Language lessons: Take free language classes at our place.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely

Requirements

Intermediate English or Intermediate Vietnamese

Between 22 and 65 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

What's not included

Flights, Travel Insurance, Internal Transportation and Visa

Program Details

We need kind and warm foreigners who can talk with kids student which their age about 10 years up to 18 years old. What you can help us is just practice English with them, prepare your mini lecture or tell them about your experience and talk with them as much as you can. Moreover, You can guide them making class activities like drawing pictures or painting ( Don't hesitate to bring your English materials if you have it ).
If you guys have some knowledge or interest about social media, documents edition, marketing or promoting my class online, you're more than welcome to apply. For example, you can help me put it in google maps or Maps.
I'd also like you to help continuing the fundraising work from previous volunteers. Things like gofund.me, contacting international NGOs or foreign governments to apply for education grants etc..
Furthermore, we still need some help ( mini task) in school construction for kids, you are required to give hands in carry blocks or cement and wash the constructive tools.
Additionally, Web designer is still needed, because the class teaching and learning materials can be organized and provided for students on internet.
=> Working duration: 1 week or more depends on volunteer's time and our hosting time ( both can negotiate). The reason we host in short time, is due to the local authorities regulations since they do not allow the foreigners staying in household more than a week but this depends on some occasions like some important days in Laos
=> Work time: Monday to Friday 16:00- 20:00
=> Day time: free or travelling around the city or give us a hand in school construction

Activities & Shift

Volunteer Activities:

Practice English with students aged 10–18

Prepare mini-lessons and share personal experiences

Lead class activities (drawing, painting, games)

Bring and use English teaching materials (optional)

Help with social media, document editing, and online promotion

Support fundraising (GoFundMe, NGOs, education grants)

Assist with small school construction tasks in the morning

Help with website design and organizing online learning materials

Helping with cleaning the classroom and around the house

Help to prepare the dining table and clean the dishes after eating

Rules

Try to avoid smoking from students and children in the house
Keep the room and bathroom clean and Do not put the trash and toilet paper inside the toilet
Lock the bedroom and turn off the electricity appliance before leaving the room
If you are in the room daytime open the window instead of turning on the lights
Do not go out at night
Do not bring any illegal's things and weapon
Keep following with your confirmation date of arrival and departure
