Program Details

Volunteering at ZAN Culinary is about cultural exchange, learning by doing, and experiencing authentic life in Zanzibar. As a volunteer, you’ll support traditional cooking activities, sustainable agriculture, and community-based education while working with a friendly local team.

Your tasks may include helping with cooking classes using local ingredients, participating in cultural exchange, assisting in the garden (planting and harvesting), supporting educational activities, and helping with daily preparations and cleaning. If you enjoy it, you can also help with photos or social media.

A typical day is relaxed and active. Volunteers work around 4–5 hours per day, with mornings often spent in the garden or preparing activities, and afternoons focused on cooking, learning, and sharing culture. Evenings are calm, with shared meals and free time.

We are looking for open-minded, respectful volunteers who are curious about local culture and happy to help. No professional experience is required—just a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

This is a cultural exchange experience, not a hotel job. Flexibility is important, as life follows local rhythms. English is helpful, and you’ll naturally pick up some Swahili along the way.

If you’re looking for a meaningful volunteer experience where food connects culture, community, and sustainability, ZAN Culinary is the place for you
