Pasture poultry apprenticeship – support our hens & collect eggs!

The experience

As we transition to regenerative agriculture, we're launching a pasture poultry enterprise. Our hens move daily, improving their quality of life and the nutrition of their eggs. We offer an apprenticeship: learn with us the theory and practice of daily care, egg collection, and coop moves. We provide a private room, workspace, and shared meals. Join us if you want to support pasture poultry in the Nordic countryside!

Program Details

The volunteer opportunity takes place on an 80-hectare diverse regenerative farm located in Salo, Finland. Beyond your role in supporting our pastured poultry enterprise, you have the opportunity to truly experience farm life in the Finnish countryside.

We want volunteers to feel like valued members of our team. We make a real effort to get to know you, show you around the farm, and learn from each other. We encourage you to share your personal or professional goals with us so we can support you in your journey. For those who impress us, we are happy to provide a professional reference.

Previous experience is never required! However, you should be physically active and comfortable working around animals in a production system.

Activities & Shift

During your first days, we will explain our pasture poultry system and show you the required chores, which includes moving the coops to fresh pasture, collecting and sorting eggs, and ensuring the feed/water system is operational. We also observe flock health and address any needs that may arise. Shifts generally start early but end by lunch, leaving the remainder of the day free for you to rest or explore. We work together to cover these tasks, so you won't be doing everything alone every day!

Rules

Farm life is unpredictable, but animal welfare is non-negotiable. The birds depend on us every single day, so we ask for punctuality and reliability during your shifts. We'll show you the tasks and support you until you feel comfortable. We expect you to be present, ask questions, and share when you are comfortable to perform tasks on your own. We applaud self-starters and independence once you know the routine. Since you are staying in our private home, we ask that you treat our space with care and keep shared areas tidy.
