Program Details
Here are the three sections for your night porter volunteer program:
Program Description
Our Night Porter Volunteer program offers a unique opportunity to experience hostel life while being part of The Golden Stork family. As part of our overnight presence, you'll ensure guests feel safe and welcome during the night hours, help maintain our cosy space, and meet travellers from all corners of the world. In exchange for your time and energy, we provide accommodation in our shared dorm, complimentary morning coffee and tea, and generous discounts on drinks at our bar. It's perfect for free spirits, night owls, and anyone looking to be part of a laid-back, social hostel environment right on Den Haag's beautiful Bierkade canal.
Activities & Shift
We'll need you to be with us 3-4 nights per week, staying overnight at the hostel. Your main job is to be present and available when guests need assistance—whether that's a late check-in, answering questions, or handling any issues that pop up during the night. Yes, you can (and should!) sleep during your shift, but you need to be reachable. During your time here, you'll also help out with cleaning duties to keep our space looking good. The atmosphere is informal and friendly, so while there's responsibility involved, it's not a corporate gig—just be reliable, approachable, and ready to lend a hand when needed.
Rules
1. You must be present and reachable throughout your overnight shifts
2. Guests always come first—be responsive and helpful when they need you
3. Complete your assigned cleaning tasks reliably
4. Respect the shared living space and your fellow volunteers/staff
5. No guests in the volunteer accommodation
6. Drink discounts are for personal use, not for buying rounds for the whole hostel
7. If you can't make a shift, let us know as early as possible so we can arrange coverage
8. Maintain a friendly, welcoming attitude that matches our hostel vibe
10. Follow Dutch laws and hostel policies at all times
