Program Details

Hello! We are Ana and Al, and we live at a beautiful rural property in Odemira, on the coastal Alentejo. Our place is fully solar-powered and off-grid (with strong, reliable internet), surrounded by nature, silence, and wide skies.
We are looking for a person, couple, or two friends with practical building experience to help us construct freestanding exterior walls for our entrance gate. In exchange, we offer free accommodation and 1–2 meals per day, as well as a calm, welcoming place to stay while working on a clearly defined project.

Activities & Shift

We need hands-on help with building exterior entrance walls, including:
Preparing and working on a concrete base
Bricklaying (freestanding walls)
Plastering / finishing
This is a specific, practical construction task, not general volunteering or farm work. We are looking for people who already have experience and feel confident working together with us on this kind of project.

Rules

This opportunity is ideal for someone, a couple, or two friends who have previous experience in masonry, bricklaying, or construction, who enjoy working outdoors and take pride in solid, well-finished work, and who are practical, reliable, and self-directed. Please note that this role is not suitable for beginners or for people looking to learn construction from scratch.
In return, we provide free accommodation on our rural property, 1–2 meals per day depending on schedule, strong Wi-Fi suitable for remote work, and a peaceful, beautiful environment in coastal Alentejo. We are happy to host one person, a couple, or two friends travelling together.
We are based near Odemira, in Portugal’s coastal Alentejo, a quiet, natural region with rolling hills, cork trees, and easy access to stunning beaches. Life here is calm and grounded, with quiet nights, starry skies, and plenty of space to focus on work during the day and rest properly afterwards.
We are flexible on timing but expect a reasonable daily contribution aligned with the scope of the building work. The exact schedule can be discussed together in advance so expectations are clear on both sides.
This is a skills-based exchange rather than a learning position. When you apply, please tell us what kind of building work you’ve done before, whether you are applying solo or as a couple or two friends, and how long you might be available to stay.
