Program Details
Welcome to the hands-on heart of our physical project. As a Natural Builder & Systems Helper, you will be directly shaping the space we live in and supporting the critical systems that make our off-grid life function. This program is for those who learn by doing and find satisfaction in tangible results. You will work with natural materials like cob, bamboo, and wood on a variety of projects, from new structures to essential repairs. Beyond building, you’ll engage with water management, land work, and maintaining our shared infrastructure. We provide guidance, basic tools, and a collaborative environment. In return, we ask for your focused energy, patience with process, and a commitment to safety and teamwork. Expect to get dirty, solve problems, and see your effort become a permanent part of our cloud forest home.
Activities & Shift
Your core commitment is 25 hours per week over 5 days, with two consecutive days off. The work is physical and varied, adapting to weather and project phases.
Morning Block (8:00 AM - 12:00 PM): Focused project work. This could be mixing cob, helping with bamboo construction, repairing a structure, digging or shaping for a land/water project (e.g., pond, swale, drainage), or assisting with essential system maintenance.
Midday (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM): Shared lunch and rest.
Afternoon Block (1:00 PM - 3:00 PM): Continued project work, material preparation (e.g., cutting, sifting, hauling), tool cleaning and organization, or collaborative planning for the next day’s tasks. Some afternoons may involve lighter, independent tasks or skill-sharing.
Rules
Safety is Non-Negotiable: Always use tools as instructed, wear appropriate protective gear (gloves, closed-toe shoes), and ask if you are unsure about any task.
Work Ethic: Be present, on time, and communicative. Inform us by 7:30 AM if you are unwell and cannot work.
Stewardship of Tools & Materials: Clean, maintain, and return all tools to their designated place. Handle natural and building materials with care to minimize waste.
Team Collaboration: Communicate clearly on site, assist teammates, and share ideas respectfully during planning. We build together.
Site & Community Care: Keep work areas organized and hazard-free. Respect quiet hours (10 PM - 7 AM) and shared space cleanliness in the broader community.
Mindset: Come with patience, resilience, and a solutions-oriented attitude. Natural building and land work require adaptability.
