Program Details
This is an NGO working on community development projects near South Luangwa, focused on sustainable farming, youth empowerment, and cultural heritage. To support these projects, we run a small guesthouse and a cosy campsite, and your hands-on collaboration helps create a real impact for local communities. As a volunteer, your role is crucial hands-on support in daily operational tasks, maintenance, and hosting. You will help side-by-side with our great local team, who will provide guidance and support throughout your stay. This is a unique opportunity to live an outdoorsy, off-grid lifestyle in Zambia.
Activities & Shift
The volunteer role is hands-on, physically active, and varied. We operate with flexible shifts and aim for a schedule that suits both the team and our guests. Our local team will be alongside you, guiding you through all activities, ensuring you feel supported and gain practical skills.
Your tasks will include:
Farming, building & repairing, painting & decorating, and cleaning: these fall under general maintenance, gardening, helping with small repairs, and contributing to campsite upkeep, which are core activities for volunteers.
Free time activities:
Safari & wildlife: You can easily visit South Luangwa National Park. Short-term volunteers need to cover the park fee. You can also go into the Game Management Area (GMA) or relax along the riverbanks.
Cultural connection: You can join staff on project days or village tours. Our team sometimes invites volunteers to their homes, local soccer games, or church services, offering an opening to daily African life.
Social & leisure: Back at the headquarters, you can relax in our swimming pool or join our social evenings. We host fun nights like movie nights, a braai/pizza night, karaoke, game nights, or campfires.
Rules
Minimum stay: the minimum stay for short-term volunteering is 4 weeks (4–12 weeks).
Commitment: flexibility is needed, with the aim of finding a schedule that suits you, the team, and our guests.
Volunteer contribution fee: the mandatory reimbursement fee for short-term volunteers (under 3 months) is USD 15 per day, which covers your living costs.
Respect and culture: we look for people who are open to new connections and cultural experiences.
Safety: safekeeping is provided by our night guard.
Visa & travel: you are responsible for obtaining the correct visa and covering all travel costs to reach the foundation.
