Program Details

Volunteers help around 25 hours per week in exchange for accommodation, breakfast and a unique experience living in the center with like-minded travelers!

Housekeeping is the core of this role. Some volunteers may also be assigned reception shifts, usually 2–3 per week, always combined with housekeeping. Our manager decides who is assigned reception shifts based on availability, previous experience, and hostel needs. Training will be provided for both tasks.

We value volunteers who are respectful, hardworking, and social. You’ll represent the hostel and help create our atmosphere—you will be the face of our hostel both inside and outside. For this reason, we welcome volunteers who get along with everyone, take pride in their work, do not cause trouble, and are comfortable with constructive feedback.

Our volunteer team spends much of their free time relaxing in the living room, taking trips to the beach, or exploring the city. During your stay, the hostel is your home, and we expect you to treat it as such. Volunteers often cook together in the evenings or share a drink on our terrace or at our nearby bar!

Activities & Shift

Housekeeping is the main role that we expect new volunteers to participate in. This position consists of essentially top to bottom cleaning of our dorms and private rooms: including making beds and cleaning bathrooms, communal spaces like kitchen and hallways etc.

Other tasks may include deep cleaning, moving or rearranging furniture, helping with deliveries, or assisting with small maintenance tasks. Housekeeping shifts typically run from 11:00 to 16:00 (5 shifts per week). Depending on workload, tasks may be completed individually or in teams; tasks and teams will be arranged daily by our staff.

Reception tasks include assisting guests during check-in and check-out, completing registration details, providing key information about the hostel and the local area, handling and storing luggage safely, and processing payments for rooms or additional services, assisting guests with requests, and improving their overall experience.

Reception shifts are assigned by the manager depending on the hostel’s needs and each volunteer’s suitability. They usually take place between late morning and the afternoon, although this may vary depending on the season and overall workload. In any case, your schedule will always be communicated in advance.

Rules

We understand that you are all social people but ask that your social lives do not interfere with your commitment to us. We expect you to be at work when you are scheduled and if you do spend the whole night out partying (come on, it’s going to happen! :p), we do not want it to impact on your duties for the day.

Similarly, if you are currently studying or working remotely, please ensure you can still commit to our shift times and schedule.

Most importantly, we require our volunteers to be team players and to always show respect for fellow volunteers, our staff, and our guests.
Basically, come to work with energy and a positive attitude and we will all be happy!
