The experience

BRIDGE is a community guesthouse just a 3-minute walk from Shimonoseki Station, known as the gateway to Kyushu and the westernmost area of Honshu. Surrounded by sea, history, and great food, BRIDGE aims to be a place people want to return to.

This renovated former ryokan is still evolving. Guests can help shape the space through gardening, DIY, and creative projects. A special “Challenge Room” is available for trying small businesses, workshops,


What you offer

15 hours of help per week

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Teaching Languages: Teaching a language to the host, guests, or local communities.


What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Free Tours: We’ll take you on tours and rides around town. For free!

Bikes at your disposal: You can use our bikes any time you want.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Language lessons: Take free language classes at our place.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely


Requirements

Intermediate English or Intermediate Japanese

Between 20 and 35 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

Join our community-style guesthouse in Shimonoseki, the western edge of Honshu. Your main role is light cleaning and bed making in the morning (around 2 hours). Afternoons are mostly free, with occasional help during guest check-in. You’re welcome to join gardening, DIY, and creative projects as we continue renovating this former ryokan. Enjoy community living, cultural exchange, shared meals, and a relaxed lifestyle near the sea.
