Dettagli del programma
To fully enjoy your stay and get the most out of it, it's highly recommended (not to say almost obligatory) that you speak French. My husband, Marcel, doesn't understand any other language at all, and he feels embarrassed when he can't chat freely, and so do I because my english is not so good.
And yes we're looking for riders, but also and especially friendly company that's able to chat and be interested in everything.
Marcel and I have bred Arabians and Barb horses for several decades, so horses are our passion, and we love to share this it with others ! Our sport is endurance
We offer :
- a great experience with horses on a farm, in the Burgundy countryside, with 2 dogs and many free-range hens.
- an opportunity to ride these adorable horses mainly outdoors, across rolling fields, forests and country paths
- comfortable accommodation on the farm, with delicious meals, with many produce from our organic kitchen garden
- although we are not going to teach you to ride, you will learn a lot from our approach of horses and their management!
- and if needed, we can provide you a reference for a job well done, helping you with your future career
In return:
- you will never prepare horses for customers
- you ride with us in the forest or in the countryside, with more or less speed, so it can be quite sporty and intense, with generally a ride in the morning and another in the afternoon.
- you are an integral member of our team on daily tasks like feeding the horses or turning them out. Little help with mucking out, only in winter and autumn, as horses are mostly in the field, and only come in at night then.
- it would be great also if (when needs only), you could give a hand in communal activities such as cooking, laying the table, etc.
Attività e turni
We would normally expect you to be with the horses on average 5-6 hours per day, with one day off per week. However, some days might be longer according to the season and if weather is fine. For example I love ride to the nearby Morvan regional park.
We usually start around 8am and work until lunchtime, at around 12.30. This involves turning horses out, helping take care of some "oldies" and most of all, going riding for about 2 hours.
After lunch, depending on the weather, you will go on another ride for the afternoon.
On hot summer days, where we might avoid the heat and start earlier the morning.
In the winter, there will be more help needed with mucking out and feed distribution.
In winter days are also shorter of course and all activities depend of the potential rain.
There may be additional activities, they can be quite varied and depend on our current needs, your skills and interests as well as the weather!
Regole
- During spring summer and autumn period, we are looking only for experienced, calm and confident riders, capable of riding out on energetic horses, over all terrains, at all paces, with the smile !
- We need light riders, not over 65 kg of weight, as our horses are small, who are willing to adapt to the gentle horsemanship methods we use. We also need good horse handling skills.
- Personally we work hard, with the well-being of horses our priority, so we go out of our way to treat them with utmost care and respect.
-This extends also to the other animals here, the environment, of all living creatures
To be happy with us, you should:
- Like animals in general, obviously horses but dogs and hens too
- Speak French : my English is quite basic and my husband Marcel does not speak English at all, so for more fun and enriching conversation and cultural exchange, good French will really help! Marcel also likes to chat a lot and tells a lot of interesting stories, on his huge farming experience: he is a monument to local culture!
- Not mind to get your hands dirty once in a while
- Like simple traditional cooking, with a lot of home-grown veggies and little (but high welfare) meat.
- Be healthy, fit and strong, dynamic and tonic, sporty
- Must don't be afraid at all on horseback
- Not have any animal allergies
- Be reliable, flexible and adaptable
- Have no previous back, knee or health problems
- Love peace and nature, and don't need the crowds, noise and lights of the city
- You also don't need to go out in the evening to go to events or other things if you don't come with your car. Here there are no means of transport like the metro, tram or bus every 10 minutes, only the bicycle!
