The volunteering was a nice experience, I got to connect with a lot of people from different parts of the world, the space there is amazing and full of nature. I wish there was more communication and care by the hosts and also wish there was someway to give classes face to face, working through the computer all the time can get a little boring and tiring. I wish some small things would change but overall it was a great experience and definitely recommend to someone who wants to connect with people and nature, and have an impact on some thai people!

My two weeks at the school were really good. The place was really peaceful and the job, overall, was easy, although you need to take into consideration you will spend a lot of time in front of a computer, since the lessons are online and you will not always have the same students. The food was really nice. We had free mornings and weekends, and we managed to organise a few trips (bamboo rafting and to some waterfalls). It would have been nice if someone in the staff had welcome us and showed us around, as I felt a little lost when I arrived and no one explained me anything.

The food was ok, though I wish the vegetarian options had more protein. The work can be a bit tedious at times, especially spending so much time on the laptop. The location is quite far from the city. We did have to ask about the bamboo rafting experience that other volunteers mentioned, but once we brought it up, they organized it for 200 baht per person, which was nice. It would be great if there was more engagement with the volunteers, as I was mostly handed a laptop and left to figure things out. Overall, it feels more like a work exchange than a true volunteer experience.

We didn't interact with the family (don't speak English) and the English lessons were online. Nevertheless, people who worked there were kind. The food was great and you could do some activities such as cooking classes and bamboo rafting. Also, they sticked to the working hours. I had a very nice time with the volunteers, I was very lucky with them. We all travelled together. It's a very chill place and I had a very nice time but I don't recommend staying more than 2 weeks. Also, I think the photos are not real, there are no children in the homestay and we didn't interact with the family.

Mae Wang has lots of hidden treasures around that gave me the chance to connect w/ local people and immerse in the culture. I made some amazing friends & memories that'll stay with me for a long time. Gong was kind & helpful but one of his colleagues was a little cold/less engaged so it was just slightly awkward as she didn't even introduce herself at all. Teaching was fun! sometimes the laptop crashed/was slow so it was a little tricky during lessons, but mostly went well. If you want to travel to the city, hitchhike or book a Grab in advance. Would def recommend for a short stay!! :)

If you are looking for somewhere that treats you like an inmate go here. The grandmother or whatever was intolerable. After confirming the address several times I ended up having for have 1000 baht one way for transportation. I didn't think that was okay or fair of the host. I was not welcomed or greeted by the host nor were proper instructions provided. They refused to acomodate my new preference (simply no seed oils) and wouldn't let me use the kitchen. Terrible hours working until 1030pm! No thank you

1. Regarding the story about you getting lost and having to pay extra for the taxi, I had asked you before your arrival if you wanted to use our taxi service, which costs only 300 Baht. You chose to use the Grab app to set your own location, and an error occurred. It’s unreasonable to expect the host to cover the costs of your travel mistakes.
2. We cannot cater to the preferences of every volunteer, especially when it comes to food. We use locally sourced ingredients to prepare meals for everyone. The oil used in Thai households is soybean oil, which is the highest quality we can provide.
3. Our kitchen usage is quite restricted because our stove uses gas, not electricity, and lacks adequate safety systems. In the event of a fire, we have limitations in place for kitchen use.
4. As for the work hours, you mentioned working late because you started at 5 PM. You had the whole day free, and the working hours were agreed upon before your arrival.

I believe these reasons should be sufficient.

I stayed at Ban Bon Doi homestay for two weeks and had a great time. The place was so peaceful and relaxing and the food was good. The town is only a 15min walk away, which is very convenient. I also met some amazing people there, including Gong who is really nice. It was a good experience and I would definitely recommend it.

This was our first volunteer experience and we definitely recommend it. The food was delicious, the space was really peaceful, people were very welcoming and the working hours were reasonable. Be aware that this place is quite far from Chiang Mai but it's a very nice place if you want to take a break and relax. We wished we could have more activities with others volunteers and learn how to cook more. Overall it's was a very good experience!
