We're a small team at AWT: Hector and Krisanthi are the founders, Chaminda is our manager, and we have a dedicated staff living on-site. About the accomodation: we offer a spacious house right within the shelter. It has three fully furnished bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. There's also a well-equipped kitchen and living room where you can relax. Both locations are walking distance to supermarkets and restaurants. Both locations are easily accessible by public transport. Both locations are 45 to 60 minutes from the City of Colombo. I had an amazing time volunteering here.
The tasks are intense at first but you get use to it after a couple days.
I loved spending time with all the dogs and giving them love.
Getting dirty and sweaty was apart of the job and I enjoyed it all.
I made many great friends and would fully recommend.
Only things that were hard was the constant barking sometimes and that there are a lot of sick dogs that need a lot of help. But that’s what I was there for. I tried to give as much attention to the animals as I could.

I volunteered at this animal shelter for dogs and cats, helping with cleaning the enclosures and feeding the animals twice a day. The work is meaningful and well explained.
The people are very kind and welcoming, and I felt comfortable right away. The shelter is a bit far from the beach, which I found challenging at first, but you can easily order a PickMe, and sometimes the driver took us after the last feeding. In the end, the quiet location helped me slow down and ground after traveling.
I would definitely recommend this experience, especially if you love animals and want a calm envoirment.

I stayed at Animal Wellness Trust for two and a half weeks, and I had the best time there. Working with the dogs was amazing, they are all so friendly and loving. The people I worked with were also incredibly nice. The work was fun and easy to do, and I would recommend this experience to anyone who loves dogs. I hope I can come back one day<3

Very good experience I learned lot of things about animals and the way they taken care of animals and their environment. I recommend this experience to everyone travelling as. a volunteer.
