Takayama is a great place to enjoy local culture, good food and nature. While people call it little Kyoto, I would rather say it's the better Kyoto! You will be able to connect to many other travellers here and the staff is also very nice. The work is easy.

Buena experiencia, las tareas son claras y sencillas, puede que con alta demanda resulte algo ajetreado, sin embargo, en mi caso, fue buena la comunicación con quién coordina. La comida es principalmente Tailandesa, bastante buena, pero algo repetitiva tras 2 semanas. Habitaciones compartidas sin mucha privacidad pero bastante aceptables, tiempo libre se respeta adecuadamente. Un ambiente totalmente internacional, muy agradable para compartir con otros voluntarios.

¡Ha sido una de las mejores experiencias que he tenido en Japón! Trabajar junto a otro voluntario hace que todo sea mucho más ameno y divertido. Las comidas son riquísimas, y por las tardes tienes tiempo libre para explorar: todo es precioso y hay muchos lugares interesantes cerca. Además, organizan noches de cine y karaoke gratis, ¡una forma increíble de sumergirte en la cultura japonesa! Me llevo recuerdos increíbles y personas maravillosas. Sin duda, ¡una experiencia que nunca voy a olvidar!

Really great vibes at the hostel! Takayama is such a lovely, charming town, and it was a real pleasure to volunteer here. The tasks at the hostel were simple and fun, with very flexible hours — perfect for exploring the area after work. The food they provided was delicious, and the accommodation was super cozy (AC, comfy mattress, kitchen, and more). I met so many amazing people here and had an incredible time. I'd definitely recommend volunteering here to anyone!

Amazing 2-week experience! This is my first volunteering experience, and I'm so glad I stayed with the hostel team. From day one, the tasks and training were very clear and manageable, and working time was well respected. The team provides us with good food every day, staff's outgoing event, and also the chance to use the facility (working space, karaoke, etc). The staff are also friendly and helpful on every topic. Takayama town is amazing! Please give it a try after every workday or day off, to explore the town and nearby attractions. I will come back here even as a tourist one day!

All in all I had an amazing experience. The cleaning tasks were always possible to finish in time and it was interesting to work in a japanese hostel. Lunch and dinner have been always great with the other volunteers and staff. Takayama itself is a lovely small city with lush nature around it and it's cultural old town. I can definitely recommend volunteering here to get a break from the big cities.

The volunteering was great! Takayama is a lovely town where you can experience a lot of culture. We worked four hours a day in the morning, cleaning the hostel and preparing the rooms for guests. All the staff sat together for lunch and dinner in the main branch, which was really delightful. In August, we experienced a few festivals with other volunteers and staff members. Overall, we had an awesome time enjoying the activities together with everyone we met.

What a truly wonderful month it has been. Takayama is a lovely city and so much livelier than you would think. We never ran out of things to do. There are a lot of staff and volunteers which made it quite the social experience: I met amazing people during my time here. The staff is attentive and the work is really fair, the hotel's automation system is very convenient for guests and volunteers, and the meals you get are so so good! This is a must do volunteering experience for anyone coming to Japan. I left with tears in my eyes, unforgettable memories and lots of friends. Thank you the hostel!!

I had a wonderful experience volunteering at the hostel. From the moment I arrived, both the staff and other volunteers were super welcoming. I made great friends, had lots of fun, and learned a lot about Japanese culture & traditions. Even though Takayama is a small town, there's always something going on, almost every week there are amazing festivals & events, plus activities organized by the team for volunteers. All of this made my stay even more special. Thanks to everyone for this amazing experience. And special thanks to my cook sensei Ratree, who was an essential part of it. 🫶

The hostel was sooo much fun, the place is amazing, the work is easy to do and the whole staff is so welcoming, I would 100% recommend anyone to come to the hostel. And Takayama is such a beautiful city, I enjoyed my experience so much !
