Housekeeping in a family-run hostel in beautiful Cassis!

Valerie is a calm and easy-going person; she and her family are very friendly and organized. the hostel is a truly incredible and peaceful place where you can hike in the mountains, explore the Calanques, and also enjoy the beaches. Your house is only a 10-minute walk from the center where there are several restaurants. It will be a pleasure for me to return soon, not to mention the friends I made during my stay.

Valérie and her partner are very nice, polite and respectful. Good wifi, but no proper area to work remotely. You work 3 days to get 1 free. Tasks aren't complicated, but can be heavy if the hostel is full in the day off of the 2nd vonlunteer, so you have to do it all by yourself. You stay in the same dorm as guests and there is no reception, so you gotta receive them and some bother you in your free time asking for help/info. Kitchen is small: 1 stove (no oven or microwave), fits 1 person at once, the mini fridge gets easily full - I think volunteers should be in the dorm with the big kitchen.

First volunteering experience and it was great. Valérie was super nice and supportive, everyday she texted us with the daily tasks (light work) which lasted between 3-4 hrs. the hostel is a very beautiful town with nature all around, the house is located within 10mins of most places in the hostel. During low season the dorm is very calm and lonely, when high season start the dorm is always full. I will forever remember my stay with Valérie!

Valerie is an amazing host. First of all, she accepted my application instantly. 🤭 She is very kind, polite and treated me with respect. the hostel is simply beautiful. For those who like the sea and hiking, it is perfect. The property is small. If you are the kind of handy person who knows how to da little bit of everything and add something different to the property other than just cleaning, you will be welcome. There is only room for one volunteer. I hand-sewed curtains for the bunk beds myself. Now you will have privacy in bed. 🤭

I had a very negative experience with this host. The mixed room was never mentioned, and my friend and I had to sleep surrounded by men. The place was unsanitary, with mold, leaks, and a filthy laundry room. The host didn't respect the 5-hour schedule, kept us working late, and didn't provide meals as promised, only €50 per week, often delayed. She even traveled and left us alone to manage everything. I had to leave for my own health and safety. Don't do this volunteer work. Many of the comments are fake, made only to please the host and guarantee good reviews for future volunteer opportunitie

Valérie was such a nice host! I really enjoyed my stay at the hostel!!! The village is small but cute. The sea is great and right next to the village there is the Calanques area, one of the most beautiful seas I've ever been to. The hostel is very cute, it even has a pool. There are two dormitorories where you can stay, one of them is great, whereas the other is a bit too small in my opinion. The workload is reasonable and the tasks are easy. The only issue there is that often you need to take care of the laundry even after the usual working hours. With Valérie's help it all went smooth though!!!

I enjoyed my time here and made friends with the other volunteers. The town is lovely with lots of energy and access to beaches and hikes. I did find it hard to understand what I had to do because I don't speak French and felt things could have been more organized. The volunteers have a big role being the only ones doing housekeeping so experience is really important. My main concern was the dorm being shared with guests, this created issues with me and the other female volunteers when older men would stay as it felt unsafe with some making weird comments. Age limit would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, my experience was not as expected. The host was often rude and did not make me feel welcome. Working hours were not always respected, instructions were unclear, and no proper cleaning tools were provided. There were also several logistical issues, such as laundry and bedding. the hostel is beautiful, but I decided to shorten my stay from one month to 10 days. The room was cramped for six people, the kitchen was inconvenient, and disruptive guest situations were not properly addressed by the host.

Volunteering at the hostel in the hostel is a peaceful experience, a way to get away from the big city and reconnect with nature. Just a short walk from the centre of the hostel, the house is beautiful, with a porch and a lovely swimming pool. Valerie, the owner, is kind and just strict enough about the work to be done. The only thing you need to know is that volunteers sleep in the small dormitory downstairs with the guests which can be a bit annoying if there are rude guests, but Valerie and Rudy are always willing to listen and help. A wonderful experience and thanks valerie for the kindness!
