Volunteering at the hostel was a beautiful and enriching experience. The surroundings and onsen culture are truly wonderful. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy nature and the onsen culture. The management styles can differ depending on the staff, and I want to especially thank Ryohey for his kindness, generosity and professionalism throughout my stay! 感谢！Muchas gracias!

I had a great experience at the hostel. Jamie and Ryohey were very kind and helpful. The workload was pretty easy, usually only about 2hr shifts which gave me lots of flexibility and free time to explore Shuzenji. It was great to interact with the locals and get to learn a bit of Japanese! The free days also allowed me to get to travel around a bit and get to see other parts of the peninsula. Overall great experience!

Shuzenji is a beautiful town with welcoming locals and gorgeous foliage. Jamie and Ryohey are both kind and hard working & have all the best tips for travelling around Izu! The work was fast and a good workout. I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone. It has been a dreamy start to my year in Japan:)

Volunteering at the hostel was my first Worldpackers experience, it has set the bar high! Jamie and Ryohey are lovely and clearly explained the tasks we had to complete. The work itself is simple and we always finished within 2/3 hours. Volunteers stay in a shared house with private rooms, I had the best housemates which made the experience even better! I recommend if you want a slower pace and to stay in a lovely quiet town surrounded by beauty!

Such a gorgeous area, and such welcoming and supportive hosts. I felt welcomed from the beginning and made great friends out of the experience. The house was a little old but it was cozy and authentic, it had all you really need for an extended stay. The work was straightforward and I had plenty of free time to explore Izu and its surroundings. If you want to experience the quieter side of Japan with the benefit of the onsen's then I highly recommend. During summer there is a lot of summer festivals and events with a very charming community. I had a lot of fun!

We were very happy to host Elisa here at Hostel Knot! From the first day she was friendly, respectful, and always willing to help. She did her tasks with care and responsibility, and quickly became part of our small team. It was a pleasure to see her enjoying Izu, getting along with other volunteers, and connecting with the local community. We truly appreciate her positive energy and kindness during her stay.

Lovely town! Full with amazing people, Ryohey and Jamie are excellent, super kind and always willing to help. The chores are not hard, plus the instructions to follow are super clear. The house has everything you need. Had a great experience in Shuzenji!

Cannot recommend it enough! Shuzenji is a beautiful place; if you're looking for a quiet town surrounded by beautiful nature (rice fields, mountains, rivers,..) this might be perfect fit! Overall the atmosphere is really peaceful and calm as it is not as crowded and touristy as other palaces! The tasks in the hostel are really simple and you mostly work with someone else together. Big thanks to Ryohey and Jamie, both of them are incredibly helpful and kindhearted. More than glad I decided to volunteer at the hostel!

I had such a great month volunteering at the hostel! Jamie and Ryohey are both very kind and welcoming. The work was quite easy and didn't take very long so I had a lot of free time to explore the town and surrounding area. The town of Shuzenji is so beautiful and all of the locals were very welcoming. This was my first Worldpackers experience and it has definitely set a very high standard! I can't recommend it enough!! Thank you again 🫶
