We're a small English school serving around 200 students aged 6-18, who come to us after school for to learn English. We want to broaden their horizons and spark curiosity about the world outside.

With tuition at $100/year, and scholarships available, we ensure that quality education is within reach for all. We're looking for 2-4 volunteers at one time to help us inspire these young minds.

Optional $3/day fee for host-provided meals.

Détails du programme

We're looking for 2-4 volunteers at a time to come and help with English classes. We would like volunteers to stay minimum three weeks, although more is highly encouraged for quality time with the students after some time to get familiar! Many of the students rarely leave the village and, until their English reaches a certain level, they have little exposure to the world outside of Cambodia. So we definitely want to bring the world to them. While teaching, we hope you will both share your culture and want to learn about ours. Any extra activities outside the classroom (art projects, music/dancing lessons, football practice, swimming lessons, teaching new games to play) would be really appreciated and the children will love you for it!

If any volunteers have football (soccer) coaching experience, that would also be a big help and can count as working hours

Activités et horaires

We teach classes 11 hours per day, 6 days per week. Ideally we want a volunteer who can help with about 20-25 hours of that. Specific days/times can be negotiated/requested based on which ages/levels you are most comfortable teaching, or which days you would like off. In the classroom you'll assist with one of us until you are comfortable teaching on your own. We have many fluent English students who will help you as teachers/translators for the lower level classes. We have a curriculum and coursebooks you can follow, but for a short term volunteer it might also be good if you have a different teaching style (maybe project based) so the kids can break away from their normal routine for a more memorable month or 2.
You need to be a fluent English speaker with good enthusiasm. Previous classroom teaching experience is a plus but not required.

Règles

The usual for a school...
- You will be with children and teens so obviously we ask that you keep interactions appropriate.
- The children in this culture are generally respectful of adults, but they are still children, so will, of course, test limits at times. Appropriate discipline varies in different parts of the world, so if you are ever not sure what tools are OK to use to maintain control and safety, please ask one of us. Even though some parents here will use physical punishments for their own children at home, we will never hit a student in this school.
- You can drink or smoke in the evenings as you wish, but not at the school when children are present.
- You are welcome to eat meals with us ($3/day if we cook; can choose day by day) or on your own, but it would be nice if we know ahead so we know how much food to cook.
