South Pacific Memories

Vanuatu is a very special country in the South Pacific. The locals keep many traditions and are happy to share lifestyle experiences with you -whatever it is a meal, food making, kava drinking, seremonis , church, etc. The Ni-Vanuatu are known as very friendly and going around or driving the streets, you will always be greeted and you'll have to greet back!
Our resort, South Pacific Memories, is a small beachfront resort, which means it is great for you who likes the ocean and water activities. You will have plenty of time to explore our House Reef, whatever you are a snorkeler or a scuba diver.
The resort is situated 15 min drive from centre of the Capitol Port Vila. This means it is quiet and no night life to explore around the house, so if this is your liking, you should not come here.

Our local staff is very welcoming and will be exhited to welcome a worldpacker guest to the resort. You will be treated with respect and laughter and curiousity about your background and way of life. You will be invited with the staff to their homes, village, chuch, if you are interested in exploring local life.

Overall, the experience did not meet my expectations, which led me to leave before the agreed period. The room didn't meet basic comfort standards: thin roof, gaps in the door, geckos and cockroaches inside day and night were considered normal. The room was often impossible to stay in due to heat, insects, and lack of Wi-Fi. The work exchange lacked structure: although 5 hours/day were mentioned, tasks and expectations were unclear, and I often felt both underutilized and required to remain available. Meals were limited: lunch was only rice, pasta and eggs, and overall access was restricted.

This was my first Worldpackers volunteer experience. It was amazing! Petter and Anne are great hosts who have a beautiful little resort. Everyday was different and worked with the hosts, a couple of fabulous volunteers and their welcoming and helpful local staff. I learned a few new skills in my work and get a glimpse into the lives of the people of Vanuatu. My time there generated many South Pacific Memories for me. Thank you Thank you!!!
