O.U.R Ecovillage

Our volunteer program is changing! Currently, we are giving priority to volunteers who can commit to 3-6 month terms. We would love to meet people who have experience in hospitality, food preparation for groups, who would love to help us run the village during the many permaculture courses we hold! To apply for volunteering the best route is to fill out our application and send your resume to http://www.ourecovillage.org/volunteer

O.U.R. Ecovillage focuses on ecological ways of living involving permaculture design.
We are dedicated to researching and modelling ways that are rooted in social, cultural, spiritual, economic and ecological well-being.
Each year we welcome many visitors to O.U.R. Ecovillage, where they get the chance to work hard, learn essential "soft"-skills for community building, and build relationships with a unique group of people.
Volunteering at O.U.R. Ecovillage enables the opportunity to grow, serve, learn and share, while experiencing living in community and living lightly on earth.

We are less inclined to accept volunteers from November 1 to February 28 as this is our downtime...yet if you have a great interest in being with us in the quiet and restful time then let us know more about you!
.

O.U.R. Ecovillage is a "Regenerative Living Demonstration Site & Educational Research Center" (1999). With a permaculture focus we also have a range of beautiful handcrafted earthen and strawbale buildings, ecological systems, engineering projects, and research projects. As a learning community we work with a range of stakeholders from the general community, government, academia, and businesses....we aim to see everyone at the table in regenerative design. We are a committed group of learners/teachers and love to eat well - crafting food is and medicines is important to us in OUR wellness work. Working with children & youth, community arts (mosaics, murals, and earthen sculpting of a massive dragon!), and restorative justice/peackemaking are all also important aspects of OUR daily work. We are committed to: 1- Treating all people with respect, dignity and fairness 2- Taking both personal and group responsibility including: • being accountable for our actions • measuring and sharing our contribution to the community • making and keeping commitments 3- Demonstrating openness, honesty, clarity, good faith and integrity in all our communications and encouraging shared leadership in our community. 4- A participatory decision-making and conflict-resolution process includes folks in OUR Volunteer Program (and other Interns, staff, and long-term communitarians!). WE ASK THAT OUR VOLUNTEERS BRING A 'CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK' AND (IF POSSIBLE) SPECIFICALLY ADD VULNERABLE SECTOR, working with children/youth/etc, AND BRING WITH YOU WHEN VOLUNTEERING. We do have programs for those who need assurance that we are a safe and healthy environment....don't we all! :)

My time at OUR Eco village was amazing. I have made so many amazing connections and learnt so much about permaculture and the great things the Eco village does for the community. Brandy, you are an inspiration and your words of wisdom will always be remembered. I am so grateful I got to be a part of this experience and I hope to come back someday and learn even more.
Much love,
Chloe

My stay at OUR has been enriching. I've learned a lot about organization and resource management, including time and personnel. I've also met wonderful, kind-hearted people from whom I've learned a great deal and continue to learn, and I'd love to keep learning. It's also a place where you can learn a tremendous amount about permaculture, wastewater treatment with its extensive wetland system, and natural building. They have many books, but the experience of Brandy and those who built this place is invaluable. I am very grateful.

My experience at OUR Ecovillage was incredible. From the very first day, you can feel the authenticity of the place, and Brandy (the host) is super kind, creating a real sense of community.
The eco-sustainable approach and permaculture teach you so much because you experience them in every activity. I went hiking, connected with wonderful people, and found a very special connection with nature and with myself. It’s a genuine, conscious, and truly transformative place.

Barbara - you brought fun and loving kindness into OUR Ecovillage's team! Everyone you interact with feels your positive vibe & are inspired to work together on whatever project...no matter how tedious/tiring, if it is with you!! From transforming OUR strawberry field, rocking out the kitchen to helping with the barnyard chores/animals....you really touched so many projects & hearts in your stay with us. You are honest, committed, and very skilled at group facilitation and we appreciate you!

I’m extremely grateful for this experience to learn and grow as an individual and community member of OUR Ecovillage. Coming with an open mind I found my time here to be an eye-opening opportunity to practice a multitude of different skills to live more sustainably in unison with the land and people, not just related to the position I applied for. Even after my short month here I’m still reflecting on new aspects I want to implement in my life and looking forward to returning again in the future!

Charlotte - you definitely brought in an outstanding amount of creativity, problem-solving, woodworking savvy, and flexibility in the design process of the 'wild-wood stairs' that your brought to life! You have changed OUR world and have to have this year's award for perseverance....which paid off in creating so much beauty!!! We look forward to co-creating with you again soon.....

Much much gratitude sent your way

The place is beautiful, the food excellent, and I met wonderful people among the volunteers. Most of my stay was positive, though the first week felt confusing due to unclear schedules and tasks. Volunteers work 25 hours plus 10 extra “Community Hours,” which isn’t explained before arrival. Near the end, a situation made the environment uncomfortable, and my experience had to end earlier than expected. I’m grateful for the learning and hope communication improves.

Deeply saddened Luis that you were uncomfortable in OUR Ecovillage environment. As social justice activists, we work very hard to ensure that all is fair, inclusive and that we all take care of each other very well. With this said, it is a very unique learning space and not everybody understands the framework we work within. We wish you the best in your next travels and that perhaps you do find your way back at a date in the future and see more of the goodness which OUR Ecovillage brings
