Volunteering here gives travelers the chance to make a real difference for the dogs of Koh Tao — and this shelter is the only dog rescue on the entire island. Every helping hand directly supports dogs who have nowhere else to go.

You’ll work closely with Lara, whose kindness, dedication, and unstoppable passion are the reason these dogs are safe today. By supporting her, you’re helping keep the rescue running and giving every dog a better chance at a healthy, happy life.

At the same time, you get to experience the magic of Koh Tao: beautiful beaches, lush nature, incredible viewpoints, and some of the best diving in the world. Volunteering here lets you slow down, connect with animals, and give back to the island while still enjoying everything it has to offer.

The shelter is run by Lara, a Scottish lass with a big heart, a stubborn work ethic, and a sense of humour that will keep you going even when you’re sweating through your shirt. She runs the island’s only dog rescue pretty much on her own, with a few lovely humans popping in to help on a volunteer basis whenever they can. Volunteers can expect to be treated with respect, honesty, and a bit of Scottish banter. Lara will show you what needs doing, tell you straight if something’s important, and thank you properly for the help—usually with a laugh, a story, or a sarcastic comment that somehow makes the work more fun. You won’t be babied, but you also won’t be thrown into the deep end alone. Expect clear instructions, support when you need it, and a team atmosphere where everyone pulls their weight and looks out for the dogs (and each other). It’s a friendly, down-to-earth place where you’ll work hard, laugh often, and actually see the difference you’re making.
