Hangover Hostels

Our Hostel chain is a "Hostel World" award winner and we have always maintained a safe and homely environment for our volunteers. The opportunity to work alongside our local team where they could learn about local life style, cultural values, learn local language, experience the various cultural sites and places of interest. Also the opportunity to meet, be of service, enjoy the company and to add value to the stay of our valued guests who travel out from across the world to enjoy and experience the beauty of our country and warm hospitality of our people.

Our Hostel Chain is owned and operated by a few like minded individuals who wanted to create hostels giving the traveler quality accommodation at an affordable price with warm Sri Lankan hospitality. As a brand we have focused not only on our guests but our staff too where we strive to provide them with an environment where they could learn and progress in there careers and enjoy the work they do. The Directors/owners who are also involved in the day to day operations of the business engage with the volunteers and hostel staff to ensure they are happy, taken care of and respected by all colleagues. The local staff who are mainly from the local community we operate in have always been very warm and welcome our volunteers to the Hangover family and take great pride in ensuring the volunteers have met there goals and objectives of being a volunteer at our hostel and go back with fond memories of our beautiful country and its people.

I volunteered at the Mirissa hostel, and due to it being off-season, there were very few guests at this time, so it did make it quite difficult to fulfil my role of social host, and I felt a little out of place at the hostel. On one of the busier nights there was a family dinner and I hosted a games night afterwards, which was more the sort of thing I'd expected! However, I had a very bad experience with the Hangover Hostels manager, which meant I no longer felt safe here and had to leave 3 weeks earlier than planned. Please message me for more info, and reconsider as a solo female!

Hangover hostel was a great choice! I volunteered in both ella and mirissa and i have to say i really liked being there! Tasks were super easy, basically just had to be social , plan and go on events and just enjoy the trip! Isuru is really nice and caring, and the locations are very good too:) This was my first volunteering ever, and i would recommend it a 100%

Noemi was amazing! Even though it was her first experience as a social host, she was super motivated, friendly, and made everyone feel welcome. She put real effort into connecting guests and creating a fun atmosphere. Thanks for making our stay so memorable! 🙌✨.I’d recommend her to any hostel looking for a social host.

This was an amazing experience, I can’t recommend it enough. The work involved mostly just hosting social events at the hostel which was an easy way to meet so many people. The manager Kamal was simply the best. He was so kind and easy to work with.

I had the best time in hangover hostel! The managers Anthea and kamal where the best and I already miss there energy. The work is just socializing and planning events for the guests. I loved Ella and will definitely come back someday ❤️
