I stayed with Change The World hostel for a month and a half, and it was a wonderful experience. A big thank you to Carolina and Marcelo for taking care of me.

✅ Hours and work that's expected of you. Everything is very well communicated beforehand, and both hosts are available if you need help. The work is simple and easily done, with clear instructions on what to do. Hours were always respected and flexible if you wanted to explore the island.

👎If you come during the low season you won't be able to meet many travelers, but that's not the hostel's fault.

Highly recommend♥️

I absolutely loved my month of volunteering here! In fact, the work load was very small because of the season so it felt more like a vacation☀️ The tasks were easy to learn and the two hosts Marcelo and Carolina are super nice and easy going. The hostel is at a walking distance from the city center (bars, clubs, restaurants, the mall, etc) and there is a bus stop super close to go to the beach. The landscapes are amazing and there is so much nature to see there! Caro was very nice with the schedules and often put our days off back to back so we can have more time to explore/rest. Thank you!! ❤

My experience was very nice. The best was the island, but it’s hard to see all without a car, and meeting volunteers. You get a good breakfast and great working time from 8-13/15-20. It‘s open for changes if you want to make plans. The work is simple. Some things could be improved e.g. renovations, both volunteer rooms and better wifi. There were bugs, which is normal for the climate, still not great. Some of the managers messages sounded harsh and strict, even though they were really nice in person and helpful every time.
I would still recommend it!
Thanks Caro and Marcelo for everything!

I stayed for a month and really enjoyed it! Great vibe with the other volunteers and guests, and the work isn’t too difficult — the host always respected the hours and was super helpful, even when I got sick; they went with me to the doctor. The hostel is about 20 minutes from the center and not very busy since it was low season. It’s a bit old and could use some renovation, especially the kitchen, and the Wi-Fi doesn’t always work well. But overall, it’s a nice and relaxed place to stay. São Miguel is beautiful if you love nature, beaches, hot springs, and hiking. Highly recommend!

My experience was negative. The manager created constant stress. There was a cockroach problem, but she pushed it onto volunteers. Guests also slept in the volunteer room, so no privacy and we had to hide belongings. Wi-Fi didn’t work. On my last day I had to send photo proof of each task. After vomiting all night from food poisoning, instead of letting me rest, she asked me to “compensate hours.” She also came late to shifts herself but stressed us for every mistake. Other volunteers felt the same.

Both experiences were stressful because you can't follow basic rules and was very disrespectful. You acted like you owned the place.
Let me just remind you that I helped you everytime, even when you "forgot your shifts", when you constantly asked for things last minute on my days off and out of my schedule time.
The only time I asked if you were ok compensating hours was when you delayed 1 day of your flight without even asking. I didn't have any problems with other volunteers.
