Bronzeleon Leonbergers

We live in the peaceful country away from the noise and chaos of the city. But we are only 20 minutes away from Edmonton and 15 minutes away from two smaller cities. We are 15 minutes away from a major airport that has bus and plane transportation.

We breed leonberger dogs and have many friendly faces to greet you everyday. You will fast fall in love with them I'm sure. We potentially have a litter of puppies coming soon and you will learn about how to care for them and watch them grow.

We live on a large farm and have lots of outdoor tasks to do so you get to spend a lot of time outdoors in the summertime.

If you are interested in learning about construction, we are building another house on our property and there are many stages that you can participate in to learn.

There is usually never a dull moment at our farm and we try to have fun along with doing the work. In summers, we will often make a bonfire and have a weiner roast with weather permitting. We find this is a good way to get to know people a little bit better.

We invite you into our home and treat you like family. We expect you to participate in meal preparation like a family unit and the cleanup as well. With past experiences we have decided that we can only accommodate omnivores and not vegetarian or other dietary restrictions. Wally, my husband, and I are very sensitive to cigarette smoke, so we will not accept smokers. We have three meals a day and you will have a private or sometimes a semi-private room depending on our number of workers. Wally is a retired construction worker but still seems to work a lot at it presently. I'm a retired ultrasound technician but still work occasional days in the city. We think you will enjoy your stay here and it will be great to meet you.

If you want to meet a local family, work in a chill place with a big pack of lovely dogs and learn so many things about building, landscaping and gardening, this is your place.
Good meals, warm home and lovely views every sunrise and sunset.
Some days are really busy and another days are calmer, there is a balance. But you need to know that you are going to a farm, and that means getting dirty and doing some hard works too. But the trickiest part of the volunteering is being able to know who are each of the dogs during the first week.
Thanks Marlene and Wally.

It was my first experience with worldpackers and Wally and Marlene made it special!
They truly look after you and make you feel at home from the very first day. The food is delicious (seriously, you’ll eat so well!), and the accommodation is super comfortable and the dogs are the sweetest. It’s the kind of place where you can learn new things and enjoy nature.

Thank you Cibele for your kind words. We are so happy that you had a good experience here as your first stop in your travels. I hope your next experiences will be as enjoyable for you and that you will continue to learn about Farm life. Best of luck to you.

I had some good two months with them. I mostly worked with Wally who’s building a second house and he taught me some construction skills. Working with him was great, I got along with him very well and I always enjoyed his jokes. All the dogs they have were amazing and I always loved being around them. If you love dogs then this place is for you

Staying with Marlene and Wally was great, for anyone who loves dogs this place is beautiful. I worked mostly with Wally on his new house wich he’s building and was very educative and enjoyble. I had planned to stay like a month but unfortunately i had to go back in my homecity for work but i absolutely recommend this experience to anyone.

Wally and Marlene are kind and welcoming people. Wally cared about my safety and was always willing to teach and make sure I understood. Tasks were simple. Marlene is a great cook, and we always had meals together.
The main issue was the working hours. Work usually runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., leaving little time or energy for yourself. The platform says it’s 32h/week with 2 days off, but you definitely work more. Days off must be requested in advance, otherwise you also work weekends. This felt more like a full-time job than a 4–5h/day volunteer exchange.

Sadly misleading comments. Lucas offered to feed dogs on his weekends off (nice) but otherwise did not work at all and was not asked to. Yes, 8:00 AM is work start time, and some days may have been a little longer due to necessity, (cement couldn't be left), but there were breaks and 2 meals and lastly, supper. His work was sporadic, not steady hours, lots of sit time. Yes, we ask for notice of days off so that not everyone is gone at the same time. Lucas worked 3 days and assumed weekend off.
