Thank you for your feedback and for volunteering with us. You are free to go out anytime, as long as you return by 10pm—this rule is for us to have enough rest. On one occasion, we only advised against going out at 9:30pm due to rain, as we didn’t want you to fall sick. We clearly state that only breakfast and lunch are provided. Whenever we cook dinner, we’re happy to offer it, but if we don’t, it means we didn’t cook that day. Any confusion, we would love to clarify immediately if you asked.

During our stay as woofers, my partner and I were disappointed by the distribution of tasks: 70% cleaning and tidying, 20% creating video content, and only 10% dedicated to the host, which did not match our expectations. Although the host was welcoming, some inappropriate remarks created discomfort. We also had to cut our stay short from 10 to 6 days, because the work did not match the host lessons advertised. We do not understand why woofing was paid without an evening meal in exchange for the work done. Thanks for the hospitality and the room was clean!

Thank you for your feedback & volunteering. Cooking is not the main responsibility of volunteers. Volunteers main role is to support our cooking classes which includes cleaning, preparing ingredients, setting up stations to ensure a smooth experience for our guests. If your main goal is to learn cooking, we recommend joining as a student instead. Only breakfast and lunch are provided as stated. For dinner, we encourage you to explore the nearby local night market.

My stay was nice, Lili showed me around and recommended many activities to do, work was as described. Only down side was her way of speaking to me (she talked to me with orders like if I were a servant more than a guest ex I would say good morning and she would respond with hurry and go eat breakfast or things like that) but in general she is nice and welcoming

Sayra,

Thanks for your help & feedback. We’re running a real business with paying guests, it’s only me and elderly mom managing everything. So when things get busy, like before a morning class, I do need to tell you directly to hurry up with breakfast so we get things ready in time. Volunteering here means being part of the team, helping with responsibilities, understanding and love. Of course, there’s time to enjoy after our guests has left & when we could slow down. Best wishes to you

We had a great time with Lili and Popo! The tasks were in line with typical restaurant/kitchen duties; serving, cleaning, and helping guests if they need anything. Light snacks and breakfast are always available and they will at least make you lunch as well. Getting to watch and help out with the host classes was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed learning about Peranakan culture and cuisine.

This was an amazing experience Lili and her mother Popo are very kind people and are willing to show you around to local food spots and markets. Definitely recommend this place if you're wanting to learn about new food, cultures and people. Lili is one of the sweetest people I've ever met with a very big heart.

I had a wonderful time volunteering at Sarang cookery. Both Lili and her mom were very welcoming and generous with their time and knowledge. I learned a lot about Peranakan cuisine, from the host recipes to unique techniques. Beyond the kitchen, they took to me to some incredible local spots which gave me a real taste of Malaysian culture. Their house is very big and clean and Lili and her mum really made me feel like I'm at home.
