The work is simple, you have to give the animals food and medication when needed, and clean. The finca is surrounded by nature and you can reach the sea on foot. The accommodation has limited resources, which leads you to an awareness of the environmental footprint. The close contact with the animals can be challenging at times as it is difficult to have moments of silence and tranquility. Unfortunately we were not told that the shower only works in a narrow time slot, but only that there is no hot water.

Noemi carried out the tasks assigned to her in a conscientious and well-organized manner. She was great with cleaning and did a good job in the kitchen: together with Roberto, she often ensured that everyone had something nice to eat. Interaction with people and animals remained rather neutral and sometimes showed little emotional engagement.

I had an amazing time at the shelter! We were 8 volunteers in total and they made the time really special. I loved all the animals and enjoyed the work with them and helping them. Be aware that you will work with rescued dogs. Most of the dogs were amazing and very friendly. However some of them are quite aggressive. Not necessarily directly against volunteers but against other dogs and against strangers. I think it is important to mention that the dogs can bite and several people have been bitten in my 6 weeks here. I enjoyed the experience a lot and would 100% recommend it.

My experience was absolutely amazing. I can really recommend the place to everyone who enjoys working with animals and to everyone who likes to be surrounded by people. You really need to prepare to fully commit to the place to really be able to experience it at its fullest. I was able to get to know the most amazing people and learn a load about my self and the work with animals. It is really an intense place and you should definitely prepare to work physically and to deal with injured animals. In my opinion it is absolutely worth everything.

This experience was very emotional ! The environment is perfect for disconnecting and living the present moment. I learned a lot about animals and many other subjects. Liala is very inspiring and the group dynamic is benevolent. I hope to have the opportunity to come back, thanks for everything 🫶🏼

I really enjoyed my time at the shelter and made many new friends. The landscape is truly incredible. I was particularly fulfilled working with the animals. Liala is an incredible person and you can feel how she loves the animals from the bottom of her heart. I can only recommend it and would definitely go there again!

The best decision I ever made was to go there! Even though I was only there for a month, it became like a second home to me. I am so grateful for all the amazing people and animals I got to live with in a magical place in the middle of the desert. I will never forget my time there and all the things I learned about animals, but also about myself. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of it <3

I recommend this experience 100%! You will find yourself immersed in nature and its simplicity, surrounded by different animals that live and interact with each other, involving you in this magnificent balance. You will have the opportunity to meet amazing people with fascinating stories to tell, and animals that will teach you valuable lessons without even realizing it. The photos and descriptions in the app are true, but they do not fully convey the magic of the place. To live this experience fully, I recommend you stay more than a month! Thanks the shelter for this experience🙏

I can't express with words what this experience has meant to me. It was my first time volunteering and I chose the shelter because of how meaningful their work was to all the animals they rescue. I was not conscious of the real importance of volunteers in this kind of projects until Liala told me the state some of these animals were in before they were rescued. Once I got used to living with all those animals (even inside the house), the time started passing by, and by the end of my stay, I didn't want to leave because of the animals and volunteers that made every day special.

PROS - As advertised on Worldpackers. - Great project, really makes a difference to so many animals lives. - Animals are lovely! - Lots of free time. - Very social, communal vibe. - You learn about living in a more eco-concious way. CONS - No positive reinforcement from manager (but the host Liala and the other volunteers were very friendly) - Sometimes shifts run slightly over the agreed times. - Potential injury (dog bites, old nails lying around) so make sure to have travel insurance. For the right person, a incredible experience!
