Shegu let you feel like being home and communicated (before the voluunteering) really well. Helped you with everything, good host, showed you the town. The voluunteering is very needed, I a small town with really kind children. The surf is unfortunately not as espected, same as the beach and the town. For teaching english, playing sports with the children and have a nice, chilled time it's really good! Love the home cinema

In the mornings at about 9am we would go down to the coast and help the most lovely man, Juan, to keep his gardens. This includes digging massive holes, weeding, watering and anything else he needs us to do. We stop at about 12pm and head back for lunch and enjoyed a couple hours of free time. At 3-4pm we head over to a little school where we teach English to kids. In our free time we do fun activities in between work or after work such as surfing, sand boarding or enjoying the delicious Peruvian cuisine. Salaverry is a welcoming and safe little town with lovely locals!

Shagu is such a great person and jefe. He is very chill when we need anything. He would always say no hay problem, no te preocupes, always check in with the volunteers and embrace new ideas if there is any thoughts that we have. I mainly participated in 3 projects: teaching children English, planting trees, and helping with the surfing lesson. Brainstorming class activities, staying balance on the paddle, and be communicative to other volunteers are the process I have experienced. All the other volunteers are great friends and companions to spend time with. I love the community feeling here.

I loved my time in Salaverry. The children are eager to learn both English and surf, it's rewarding work and I felt I made great connections both with the children and in the community. The town of Salaverry is small but so welcoming - there's always some parade or music to watch. I came wanting to practice Spanish and it's the perfect place for this. You have plenty of time to do your own thing and on the weekends you're free to explore Huanchaco and surrounding towns. Shegu is a great host and goes above and beyond to make sure you have a good time.

Although I could not stay my entire stay due to personal reasons (medical), I connected with local people of Salaverry. I worked 3 hours daily (Monday-Friday), 1 hour at the park (My favourite). Met amazing 5 friends (Gentlemen) who are passionate about community services, and improving the city. I enjoyed working with Mr Juan. Then worked 2 hours at the school, although there was no structured lessons, i am thankful that I was able to collaborate with other volunteers in teaching the kids English. However, I wish this part of working was more organised. So keep in mind to be flexible.

I had a great experience volunteering here! I felt extremely welcomed by Shegu and by the whole community. The kids were amazing and brought such an amazing energy. It was difficult at times but always so rewarding. It was a perfect way to try and develop my Spanish. The only things I would say could be improved are, the cleanliness of the facility and the organization of the daily tasks. Other than that it was great!

Although I only stayed a week, my workaway with the project had a massive impact on me.The workaway is located in a small, friendly town where you have the chance to practice your Spanish with many locals. My Spanish improved rapidly and I learned a lot about Peruvian culture. The children are so sweet and you feel really supported with lesson plans. I'd really encourage anybody to volunteer here if you're looking to learn English it was a great experience.

Jarka'y was a mixed experience. There was a lack of basic organisation, times to start duties and what duties for the day. We would get a message 30mins before to start the class or lesson. There's no laundry at the house so you have bus 20mins to do that. Also there is a $3US/day fee which isn't stated on the profile. Cleanliness of the bathroom was pretty bad with a leak in the toilet. There are some great things about Jarka'y. Teaching the children was very rewarding, Salaverry is a laid back Peruvian fishing village and the opportunity to learn to surf with the boards available.

When we arrived in Salaverry they were transitioning from their previous house to a new location so the faculties weren't fully accesible at the moment. At the end of our stay most of the faculties had already been fixed. The children were very fun and most of them very eager to learn. The locals were also very welcoming, as we not only helped children but also a local green project. Peruvian culture is also very strong in Salaverry. The experience is good but I would not recommend it if you are a strict person that can't handle uncertain schedules and unexpected issues.
