I truly loved my time at the lodge thanks to the wonderful people there. This place is great for intermediate Spanish speakers looking to practice the language and for people who want to disconnect from city life. I recommend bringing books or activities you enjoy doing alone; unless you rent a car you will be secluded to the property. I learned a lot about housekeeping, barbacking, food running, and restaurant management. Potential volunteers should be willing to practice patience, strong communication/confrontation, and working within unstructured guidelines to thrive.

My stay at the lodge was really enjoyable. We did grocery shopping once a week and prepared meals together, so being a vegetarian was not an issue at all. I had plenty of free time to enjoy the pools and the beauty of the place. Be prepared that there might not be other volunteers when you arrive, so I would recommend this place to those who are comfortable spending time on their own as well. The work was great, but communication could be improved. Thank you, the lodge!

The lodge is a beautiful place where nature and charm collide. The staff is incredibly friendly and patient, even with my limited Spanish. A special thanks to Vany, a golden soul who took great care of us—cooking, helping us rent a car (a must for exploring the island since the lodge is located pretty remote), and always being there when needed. The facilities are dreamy, most of us had private rooms. We mostly worked Friday to Monday, though the volunteer organization truly could improve. When you come to this place, I suggest you to speak Spanish, as almost everyone just speaks this language.

Joel cumpre o que informa no anúncio que é a carona desde o aeroporto, alimentação e a estadia. Também é educado e respeitoso. Porém quem for voluntariar tem que estar ciente de que o lugar é afastado de tudo e não há transportes para você conhecer outras partes de Porto Rico. Você depende de carona do anfitrião pois não há ônibus, uber ou taxis. Minha experiência foi muito solitária pois só havia eu de voluntária. Muitas vezes o anfitrião saia e não havia clientes também, assim eu ficava totalmente sozinha e isolada o que me deu medo algumas vezes.

Joel is exceptionally kind and truly knows how to make you feel at home. the lodge is much more than just a place to stay, it's a gateway to discovering local life and feeling the love the people have for their region.The tasks were simple and well-organized.Special thanks to Luis, who made it possible for us to enjoy even more amazing experiences during our stay! Jade & Melanie fueron excelentes voluntarias, de las mejores que hemos recibido en el proyecto. Son unas chicas bien organizadas y responsables, atentas, ademas de muy dispuestas y con buena iniciativa para las tareas asignadas. Su personalidad y energia fueron pieza clave durante las 5 semanas que estuvieron con nosotros. Las recomiendo al 100%. Todo anfitrion que quiera hacer su lugar mas pintoresco y sumarle buenas vibras deberia de recibirlas. Las vamos a extranar mucho, nos veremos pronto🫶

I had an amazing experience at the lodge. Joel was the best host. He always drove us around and took us to many bars at night. I also had the opportunity to meet & connect with many local people. The best part was the trips Joel organized for us, like a tour of the rainforest and a boat trip. The hotel itself is very beautiful and volunteers get single rooms & free meals. The work wasn't complicated or hard. I highly recommend this place to everyone who wants to experience the true Puerto Rico. ¡Muchas gracias, Joel, para la increíble experiencia y todos los chinchorreos!

It was an amazing experience, the passion that Joel has for his vision is truly remarkable. Really, this place is phenomenal! You get to meet so many people, experience the restaurant culture, and enjoy the business of a bed and breakfast! It was my first experience and the trailers for the volunteers are phenomenal! I felt safe at all times and enjoyed hikes, trails, açai bowls and getting to know the people. Thanks Joel, I would come back. Una experiencia super agradable, una oportunidad donde conoces el ambiente, me sentí seguro y contento con mi primera experiencia, si volvería✍🏽

My experience at the lodge has been the best. It is a magical place in the mountains, it's a Paradise, is a perfect place to be in contact with nature, relaxing. The kindness and generosity of people is incredible. Joel is the best host, he is kind, takes care of others, is generous. Thank you so much Joel and all the Staff, you are a wonderful people. I will definitely return. I'll miss you guys 🫠

Joel was an excellent host. He always does what he says he will and I admire that. Ran into a few issues with the chefs, specifically surrounding meal times/portions of food/number of meals during the weekend. However, as the program is new for joeland his business as well, he has made the addition of a fridge/air fryer, and groceries should allow that issue to be resolved. Overall, the bumps along the road did not overpower my pleasant experience. I'd just focus on communicating to Joel your needs and he will do everything he can to ensure you have what you need. I am glad to have met Joel!
