Takayama is a quiet and peaceful place, there are many hiking routes. It is an area with a lot of tourists, I can't say it is a good place to experience local life. The meals was always delicious the work is not difficult and they shared in detail when and how much I should work, so it was easy to plan. The staff was nice and helpful. It's great place for staying while your travelling.

I really enjoyed the hostel ryokan!! one month felt too short ♥️ both the full time staff and volunteers have been so fun to make friends with! i got to practice my japanese here as well with the local staff 🫶 the kitchen shift is relatively new so the guidelines for kitchen volunteers are not fully ironed out yet! but there's also flexibility in what you want to cook so it's been a joy cooking vegetarian food 🍲 meals have been very inclusive to all diets, i highly recommend volunteering here🎶

The managers and the other volunteers were really welcoming. The food was good. The work was okey too, working hours were respected. Takayama is a really chill town, it's great if you love nature.

The kitchen is fully equipped, and they give you the opportunity to prepare dishes based on your own ideas. The staff is super welcoming and available. Regarding working hours, if you have any prior commitments and inform them in advance, they will adjust your shifts accordingly. During my first week, we had to work a bit harder because the head chef was away, but once she returned from her holiday, we only had to cook either lunch or dinner. This allowed us plenty of free time during the day to explore the surroundings. I enjoyed every moment in Takayama! Thank you everyone ❤️

The volunteering was a great experience, the staff is welcoming and ready to answer every question and help you working, socialize and feeling good. The work is manageable, we had plenty of time to enjoy the city and surroundings while off with recommendations from everyone. The free meals are a big plus, as we're were eating great food and it helped a lot for socializing especially if as a hard time with that. It allows to create a good atmosphere to the volunteering.

My first volunteer experience at the hostel in Takayama was great. The staff were kind, welcoming, and flexible enough. I got along well with the other volunteers. Tasks were simple, giving me time to explore Takayama and nearby areas. I enjoyed the staff meals and then movie nights. Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay.

I had a fantastic volunteering experience at the hostel. The work was manageable and the staff were friendly, approachable and responsive. The meals were amazing, well-portioned, and the team culture made it really easy to socialise with both staff and other volunteers. I'd highly recommend this volunteering experience for anyone wanting to make friends with other travellers :)

All the staff and volunteers were really nice, the lunch and dinner time was one of my favorites parts of the day, we all seat together and enjoy (food was really good). The work is very good organized and a the time what's always respected. If you want to practice your Japanese it's the place to do it, due that the staff speaks really good and fluent. Takayama is a wonderful place to be, it has a river that cross the city and it's full of life (koi fishes, a lot of types of birds, flowers and even serows around the area), it has beautiful streets, forests and temples. I was lucky to be here in hanami season and Takayama spring festival, amazing experience! Im grateful for people that I met, team was amazing. Work was simple. Keep in mind that foreigners can be volunteers and stuff, so stuff team usually is busy all day and you can hang out with them after dinner. Takayama is far away, you can't go somewhere out after lunch, so plan your trips in your days off)

I had a wonderful experience. I must say that I was feeling unconfortable during the first few days, due to the many cameras everywhere, I cannot stand being constantly underwatch and also for breakfast we just had jam and a slice of bread, which is not great when you can't eat bread. But despite that I had an amazing stay, all the volunteers and staff are lovely, the tasks are quite easy, we finish at 1pm max so you have the whole afternoon to enjoy the city, and thanks to the hotel I volunteered in a matsuri, which is quite unique, I feel grateful for every moment I had at this place 🫶 thks
