This was my first Worldpacker experience and what an experience for sure! I've never felt this independent in my life. Susie encourages you to grow beyond yourself, but note that it's not made for everybody because it requires strong mental energy to step out of your comfort zone. Don't expect either to work 25 hours a week as mentioned in the add, and don't be shy to ask for your days off and stick to it. Also don't hesitate to ask questions, Susie will repeat and try to make it as understandable as possible. Exceptional place with great horses and I had a good time overall 🏇

Unfortunately I can't say much about Susie as a host as she decided to leave on a trip for almost my whole stay. I confirmed my stay in 10/2024 and I was not informed about her absence until 2 days before my travel. I stayed 13 days and was alone 10 of them. I had to take care of a house, a dog and 2 horses by myself everyday. I was lucky to meet 2 worldpackers that stayed nearby, otherwise I would have spend all my days alone. I imagined my stay differently and I felt taken advantage of with some of the jobs I got assigned. An experience nevertheless but I was hoping for something more.

I had a lovely stay with Susie. The house was beautiful, the animals were wonderful and easy to look after. I got to ride almost every day and go for lovely walks with the dogs. Susie is a wonderful, very social woman and made me feel so welcome. She invited me to every social gathering and was keen to make me feel included. On my days off I got to use the little car as I pleased and got to explore the beautiful area! I also got to go hunting and ride on the beach which was so much fun. One thing to note is that this isn't a 9-5, the hours are flexible. I highly recommend this experience.

Such an amazing experience! Susie and her family are incredible people and we will really miss all the spent there. Plenty of oportunities to ride and see the surroundings with the little car. If you are with the kids prepare yourself for being very busy, but having a lot of fun of course. In summary a very recommendable experience if you have no problem with hardwork and cooking, and if you love riding, exploring and animals of course.

Susie and her family were extremely welcoming and friendly throughout my two week stay! She provides a cozy room and makes sure you are always fed. The horses, the dogs, and the cat are all super sweet and easy to take care of, as well. Getting to ride almost everyday was truly appreciated! She also made sure I had a car to drive and allowed me plenty of time to go explore. I will miss them all!

This was my first worldpacker stay. Susie is an incredibly kind person. She warmly welcomed me into her family from the first day. The work is varied and especially the work with the animals is really fun. This place is perfect for animal lovers. I would come back anytime.

Susie is so kind! The most welcoming place you'll experience. I appreciated the free time and the ability to see so much of the area. The work was just right, I never felt it was unfair or too much. Highly recommend trying a stay at Balmahgie house.

My experience in Scotland couldn't been more pleasant! Suzie is a great Lady who enjoys to be with people and in nature with her animals, and not only because of that, my time in her house was amazing! I could rest, work and enjoy the beautiful region of Galloway! I would recommend always!

I loved my time with Susie, she is such a lovely soul! She made me feel very welcome and was very caring! I loved the animals and they were also very friendly. I met many locals and I could improve my english skills. The working hours were kinda confusing at first, but you can make an easy agreement with Susie about it. I loved to be there!

I had a great time in the farm; I came at a difficult time for Susie's family, who still welcomed me with open arms. I miss all the animals dearly and I loved connecting with rural Scottish life. That said, the job might not be right for you if you're not a flexible self-starter. There aren't really days off as there is always something to do around the estate. This didn't bother me, but I think it could be difficult if you're working remotely. I would also note that Susie and her family are avid fox hunters so this position may not be for you if you're sensitive to that. Thank you, Susie! <3
