Staying at the Hostel has been one of the best experiences I've ever had, the welcoming was very warm and after just a few days the place already felt like home. The location is stunning and there are a lot of activities to do in the area, and we also had a bike at our disposal, which made things even easier. The best thing about this experience has been meeting amazing people from all over the world that made the work feel like playing. The working hours were pretty light and never more than agreed and the manager, Fergal, has always been very kind and careful that we enjoy our stay the most.

I had such an amazing time volunteering here, I didn't want the month to end. The work is easy and not too much, the location is absolutely beautiful and the host is very nice and will always try to help if there is a problem. I worked and lived with many amazing volunteers from all over the world and it was a lot of fun to be apart of that team. There are plenty of fun things to do in your free time, though of course those who love hiking + being out in nature will have more fun as it is very remote. I learnt a lot and if there is ever an opportunity would 100% do it again. Heavily recommend!

Working at the hostel as a team of six was a lot of fun!From the first day on everybody was welcoming and helpful, so in the end I had a second little family (with Fergal as our understanding an storytelling uncle). He really gives every volunteer the opportunity to have a good time and explore as much of Connemara as you want. The work was just as describes and very reasonable. This hostel is a good place to meet people from all over the world, travelling in a lot of different ways. I am gonna miss all the funny laughters, game-nights (thanks PJ)and barbecues we've had! Thank you BL-Team!

If your looking for a nice experience this is a really good one. The enviroment of the hostel is really cool and the manager - Fergal, he is a really nice guy and he understands the concept of volunteer work perfectly. He always helps volunteers with schedules and makes sure their exchange is fun. Hours worked are exactly as agreed. This experience provides an immense contact with nature, culture and guests. Thank you the hostel!!

Fergal was very accommodating when we had staffing difficulties and overall helped us out a lot when we needed to get to town for food, took us on excursions, etc.! I will say that even with all the volunteers, we were working check in much over our 5 hours and I think that, overall, housing and breakfast wasn't enough compensation for the work done. The place is absolutely stunning with a beautiful lake that you can swim in, so if a schedule was created for volunteers next year, I would recommend!

Fergal was a fantastic host. He was kind and welcoming and full of stories and history. He was flexible with my needs and helped me settle in. The work was very reasonable and left plenty of time to visit neighboring mountains and lakes and to relax by the wood stove.

This experience at the hostel has completely changed me. I have met lot of people I would carry in my heart forever. I especially say thanks to Fergal for being such a great manager. He is attentive and patient and He taught us how a hostel is run from housekeeping tasks to reception activities. He drove us frequently to Clifden for groceries shopping and sometimes he drove us to sightseeing around the beautiful area of Connemara. Dialy tasks are simple and easy to do and all of them could be done in the working hours.

My experience at the hostel so awesome! The working hours were fair and I got along with the other volunteers and staff so well. It's such a beautiful area with a bunch of hiking nearby. The public transport is fairly frequent so it's super easy to get around when you want to do something.

I really enjoyed my stay at the hostel. Fergal was very easy to work for, flexible with the volunteer's, work schedules, and very kind to both staff and guests. He would run us to Clifton as often as he could so we could keep supplied in groceries and other needs. I really liked nights by the fire in the sitting room with him and many of the guests who had a party spirit. I also learned how to make flap jacks, (sort of oatmeal cookie) which I thought were originally pan cakes and observed how the home made bread was make. The hikes up to the summit was a relaxing way to get away.
