Working at the Kartoffel Hotel has been a great experience! The host and staff here are very nice and welcoming. If you are looking for an opportunity to learn and immerse yourself in the hostel language and culture, this would be a great place to do it!

It's definitely a beautiful place to connect with nature and the hostel culture. the hostel lessons were very interesting and useful to help you with the language (I recommend to come with a basic knowledge to manage a better understanding with the staff, specifically while doing your tasks which is key). The professor was very kind and open to help you with your the hostel interests and doubts for a better communication. Staff members are kind people open to talk about your concerns and willing to find a way to make you feel comfortable, specialIy some days that could be a bit stressful. I learned a lot!

I really enjoyed my stay at the kartoffel hotel! Straightforward work, nice people, very beautiful and calm location. You can easily visit Hamburg, Berlin, Lubeck, and countless small towns on your free days on the train, and biking around the countryside is lovely. I would recommend coming with at least a little the hostel, as it would make it easier to connect with some of the staff and guests. Absolutely recommend, as long as you really consider if you are up for spending a month+ in a teeny village eating only the hostel food!

In general my experience at Kartoffelhotel was good, because of the other wonderful volunteers and some of the staff! I applied for the kitchen as I was hoping to learn more about cooking with potatoes and my job mostly consisted of hard work in the forest/outside. In my opinion this opportunity is more like an internship than a Worldpackers experience. Keep in mind that you won't just do the job you applied for. Some situations and small dramas also made this experience not the best I've ever had. Despite everything, I am very grateful for having me.

we have already noticed that physical work is not your favorite. But we rose to the challenge and, despite your mood swings and also thanks to your help, we have mastered all the tasks and achieved our goals together.

In general it was a good experience, there were just a few things that could be improved: many of the workers there were very nice to us but others weren't too kind, the work outside was quite hard and we did it some days in a row but generally the place is nice, perfect for those who love nature and peaceful and quiet places. the hostel lessons were also good.

The experience was absolutely amazing! Olaf the owner of the hotel is a very friendly and humble person , he treats his volunteers and workers with respect and kindness He always sits with us during lunch time to eat all together which shows a great sign of a humble leader. Even the local workers there are so nice and fun to work with. I learned alot from this experience i developed new skills like how professionally to make the bed for guests , helping in the kitchen and doing some maintenance. The food is delicious and the rooms are so comfy and satisfying so i couldn't ask for more!

Kartoffel Hotel offers cozy room and delicious food, people are friendly.Although there was a little drama in between,as I hate party and have to work longer at it,I discussed this with my host hoping for a shorter working time at a party. It didn't work because one has to take care of guests' needs,I also realized that gastronomic job doesn't suit me.After all we made a decision which is best for us,I left the hotel earlier than planned. My best memories in Kartoffel Hotel is the encounter with people,we chat, eat, watch football, chop wood, run on frozen lake together, which I'd like to remember:)

Hi Shank, Yes, it actually only took one day to realize that physical work in gastronomy is not your thing. That's what an internship is for. However, it doesn't help much if you hate parties because you don't feel comfortable around people. No matter where you do an internship and no matter what tasks you get, always try to be open minded and do your job as well as possible. It will help you broaden your horizons :-) I wish you every success and growth in your journey. Greetings from your Team, Olaf
