Condado Beach Hostel - Looking for Co-Hosts!

Staying at the hostel was a great summer experience. San Juan has a lot to offer. I met 200+ travelers from all over the world, practiced speaking Spanish with locals, and spent a lot of time at the beach. Living in a shared space for an extended period of time was an adjustment for me, but the living arrangements are comfortable. You have to save money ahead of time to make this type of exchange work, but it's way more manageable having a free place to stay. Charles was kind and accommodating throughout my stay. Check it out.

From the moment I arrived at the hostel, the owner Charles and the entire staff welcomed me with open arms, and exuded warmth, thoughtfulness, and kindness throughout my entire stay. Charles's genuine concern for the well-being and happiness of each co-host was evident from the start, and it made all the difference in creating a safe, comfortable, and incredibly enjoyable environment for all of us. If you're considering a work stay program I wholeheartedly recommend this place.

I volunteered here for 6 weeks and it was fantastic - I actually signed up to volunteer a second time! Absolutely loved it, could not recommend more, the hostel is a family and awesome place to work & stay. Highlights:Tons of free time, super kind & fun staff, great hostel that's clean and provides breakfast, balanced work, great location, social hostel with cool guests. Not Bad but Worth Knowing: You can hear La Placita from the hostel most nights. Work shifts are pretty filled with tasks but it's not stressful - it's completely doable and staff is super supportive.

Mackenzie was an absolute pleasure to host. She quickly pick-up tasks and consistently delivered above expectations. Social and out going, as well as personable and kind to both guests and staff. We would warmly welcome Mackenzie back if she decides to come back to Puerto Rico!

The hostel is a great choice for people looking to da work trade for the first time. Super fun social environment and walking distance from nightlife, beaches, and grocery stores.

This was my first worldpackers experience, and I loved it! It was incredible to meet amazing people everyday and explore San Juan and at times the island. My group of co-hosts and the hosts were amazing and truly made it feel like home. The tasks are rather simple, but it can be very busy and at times a bit overwhelming especially in the busy season. This has been life changing for me and I can definitely recommend it to everyone :)

I had a wonderful time volunteering at the hostel. For me it was the first time volunteering at a hostel and I didn't know what to expect but everything was perfect and exceeded my expectations. I had a lovely team of co-hosts around me, had so much fun with the other guests and also the pets made it feel like a real home. The work is pretty easy, there is a lot of time for the tasks you need to do. It is very nice that you work in shifts of 8 hours, as this gives you a lot of free time during the week to explore the island. The hostel itself is conveniently located, everything is nearby!

Volunteering at the hostel is an incredible experience. Work expectations are very clear and the social environment is amazing. I met many incredible people and built close friendships with many of the other staff members that I have kept up with. There are inevitable challenges when you stick 6 adults in a shared room for a month or more, but it is a learning experience and challenges you to communicate clearly . I 100% recommend this experience for anyone looking to grow their social skills, build meaningful connections, and experience intimately Puerto Rican culture.

I had an amazing time at the hostel! The hostel is in a great location, close to bars, restaurants, grocery stores and the beach. There is a fun vibe and I met many wonderful people from all over the world. The schedule, working three days a week on an 8 hours shift with four days off, allowed me to have enough time to explore the island. Charles is a great host, flexible if any change was needed and always available to help. It was my first time volunteering with Worldpackers and I couldn't have had a better experience. I truly felt like it was home.

I have volunteered at 6 different hostels for a total of 9 months worth of traveling and, unfortunately, this is the first time I encountered a negative hostel experience. It all began when Charles talked badly about other hostels & even sent me screenshots of their bad reviews and asked me to volunteer a month early. Then, finding out I was going to work a total of 32 hours some weeks (including my first week), subtracting money out of my paycheck for an error I did in housekeeping (with no warning), & spamming my phone on Worldpackers, WhatsApp, & telegram at 2:00 am, very unprofessional!

We love hosting work exchangers and our co-hosts enjoy staying with us as you can see from our many reviews below. However, that was not the case with Allan, who we unfortunately had to fire, due to repeatedly poor and inconsistent performance, which negatively impacted both our guests and his fellow co-hosts.
First, we agreed to ‘rescue’ Allan from his previous work exchange, because he contacted us desperately seeking an immediate relocation to a ‘safe’ environment. Given this, we could not schedule him for the first week of his stay. Instead he agreed to work an extra 4th shift for 3 weeks to cover that first week. Secondly, we do provide some extra performance based tips for staff. However, due to Allan's poor and inconsistent work, he is correct that he was not well tipped. Instead, other staff were tipped extra to clean up and fix his work.

My experience was mostly positive! Co hosts will be your family, you will be there to support each other and the guests contributing to this home-away-from-home style hostel. You have plenty of freedom to explore beautiful PR during the week. Shift work includes breakfast, housekeeping, check ins and other special projects. It can feel like the owner is ungrateful and ignorant to the hard work performed by co hosts here, your co-host family will be your support thru this. There are many amazing people you have a chance to meet, I would recommend this as the pros outweighed the cons!
