I stayed in the hostel for two weeks and I think Valladolid is a good place if you are looking to experience real Mexico and chill. It is a really small city and a small hostel so you will have a lot of time for yourself.

I really loved my time at Guacamyas! Wilo (The owner) is just amazing, he does everything to make you feel at home. He spends a lot of time with the volunteers, taking the time to advise us on things to do in the city. He cares about everyone's well-being. We can feel that he opened a hostel out of passion and that he loves to interact and exchange with everyone.

This was my first volunteering experience and overall it was great! I met a lot of people, explored the area, and the work was simple and easy to learn. However, posing in a swimsuit was an unexpected—and for me, uncomfortable—part of the job, which had not been mentioned in the description. I ended up going through with it because I felt responsible for having committed to the team. That said, I believe clearer descriptions of tasks are important to avoid surprises. If modeling isn't an issue for you, it's a fun place with great vibes and I definitely recommend the experience!!

During my time at the hostel I got to meet travellers from all around the world. There wasn't much for me to do during my working hours as I worked 7pm till midnight. Wilo did ask for some new signs to be painted for the hostal which was fun and enjoyable. Valladolid is beautiful and I always felt safe around here. The Cenotes were amazing and I would fully recommend visiting them. Wilo is a great guy but I wish we were able to spend more time together during my stay. He was always available to message if needed and always helped us out if needed.

Wilo is a good guy, lovely to chat to and full of knowledge about Valladolid. Unfortunately we didnt get see Wilo much due to his other commitments, so we worked alone. The work was pretty simple working the reception, it was only difficult answering the phone as my spanish is limited. Travelling as a couple, it would have been nice to be able to work together, however due to there only being 2 of us volunteers & 1 staff member, we had to work separate hours. 2-7 and 7-12. We stayed in the dorm with double beds, these were not so comfy. The kitchen is very basic, only a gas cooker to cook.
