The hostel is very clean, well-organized, and comfortable. Breakfast was good, and the location is okay – about 20 minutes to the center. As a volunteer, though, I didn't enjoy the work experience. It felt quite strict, with tasks checked closely and mistakes pointed out in front of the group. Also, there were very few volunteers during my stay, which affected the atmosphere.

The experience was not as expected and was overall disappointing. The volunteers are separated from the main hostel limiting social interaction with the small amount of travellers at the hostel since it was mostly families and group trips making it difficult to talk to anyone other than the other volunteers. However since we were always working we basically had no time to hang out with each other. The hostel employees were not all that welcoming other than Adrian and Diogo at the bar, they were amazing and the highlight of the experience. When working, bar is mostly dishes, so is breakfast.

I had such a wonderful time volunteering at the hostel! From the very beginning, the staff made me feel welcome and part of the team. Everyone was incredibly kind, patient, and always ready to help whenever I had questions or needed guidance. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, which made it easy to feel comfortable. Tasks were clear, well-organized, and balanced, leaving me plenty of time to enjoy the hostel, meet other travelers, and explore the area.

I really enjoyed my stay at the SJ Hostel! The working hours were always respected, there was a great variety of tasks, and most of the staff were really kind and took the time to teach us everything (special thanks to Jaci and the bar team!). The only downside was the volunteer house. Unfortunately, there was black mold in the bathroom, along with snails and many dead bugs and it was clear that the house hadn't really been maintained in quite some time. Despite that, I still highly recommend SJ to anyone who wants to learn something new every day and become part of a great team!

My experience at the hostel couldn't have been better. The staff was extremely nice and welcoming, and my group of volunteers ended up feeling like a little family. The work hours are always respected. You provide support for the staff in different areas (bar, reception, housekeeping, breakfast), so you can always rely on them for help. The hostel is nice and the location is excellent. I left with a lot of great memories and I feel extremely lucky and grateful for everything I learned during this month. Big thanks to everyone that made my time here truly unforgettable 💌

This was my first WP experience, and it exceeded all my expectations. The staff were incredible, so welcoming and kind. The working hours were very fair, and the hostel itself is truly beautiful, like a little oasis. I left the hostel with amazing new friendships and countless cherished memories. I will always be grateful for my time at the hostel <3

This was a once in a lifetime experience. It was my very first WP experience and it did NOT disappoint. All of the staff in the hostel were amazing, super kind, and always willing to help. The hours are well respected and if you need help to accomplish tasks during the shift, it is always there. I left this experience with my heart super full. My group of volunteers became my family, I am super grateful for the hostel bringing us together. Special shoutout to Thiago(bar), Vanessa, and Renan. Luiza always looked after us, and was a great host. I will be forever grateful for this experience :)

I will forever remember the people here and the experiences I've had with each of them. This trip quickly shifted from a work exchange and opportunity to explore the hostel to a true bonding experience with fellow volunteers and ALL the staff members who work here. The small moments at the hostel, such as having lunch at the volunteer table or hanging out at the bar with the staff, became the highlights of my stay. Everyone was welcoming and made my experience unforgettable. The work was also rewarding and the hostel itself is beautiful. You will never be bored here.

I finished my experience at St the hostel two days ago and I already miss everything. I felt like I was living in a world apart, made of positivity and energy. The jobs were different, I learned new skills and improved my English. The group of volunteers has become like a second family and I can't wait to see them again. The place is very well looked after and never gets boring, I highly recommend this experience for anyone who wants to test themselves and grow personally. Thank you St the hostel for all the emotions you made me feel and thanks to all the staff!
